Streamlight Twin Task 2L: good for nightstand and maybe IDPA?

I'm a hard guy to buy presents for, so I asked my folks for a "good" flashlight for Christmas. My Mum doesn't see the point of a flashlight costing more than $5, but admitted that I might as well choose a nice one if it's my main present.

I did some THR reading, and I'm thinking the Streamlight Twin Task 2L looks good. Seems pretty compact, 75 Lumens, and has both Xenon and LED options.

I thought I could keep it on my nightstand with the LED head. If I do go to a Night IDPA or Carbine match, I could attach it to my SP1 AR-15 with some sort of mounting clip, and use the Xenon head.

Is this one of the better options out there? The only thing I don't like is that the button is on the side rather than on the butt.

Was also considering the Surefire G2, but don't dig the rubberized body. Plus, the LED upgrades for the Surefires seem really pricey.

I'd delve into reading the Candlepower forums, but that would take up the rest of my day. Not asking anyone to do in-depth research for me, just asking if the light-savvy members have any gut "sure, sounds good" or "for the love of heaven, not the STT2L!" reactions.

Thanks,

I have a Twin Task 2L - it does not come with two heads. It has a Xenon bulb and three 5mm LEDs in the same head. The switch toggles between the Xenon and the LEDs: off-Xenon-off-LED-off. I don't think it would be suitable for "tactical" use because of the way the switch works. I don't believe there are any remote switch options for it like there are for Surefires, either.

Note that the G2 is not rubberized. The body is a polymer kind of like that used in Glock frames. It would be my choice for an inexpensive lithium-powered light.
