after watching those fnp90 videos i started thinking about trajectory. the tracers shown in the first video clip show the tracer rounds taking some wild paths after perforating the target.

does this happen with all bullets? does paper/cardboard alter the bullets path that much? when i'm at the range, i've seen my rounds and other peoples rounds hitting a wide variety of places. sometimes they'll drop within ten feet of the target, sometimes they'll go all the way to the backstop. one time, when i was the only one on the pistol range, i took a single shot from my steyr m9 and after going through the target i see a *poof* of dirt 10-12 feet to the right, 15 feet past the target, and another *poof* appeared in the backstop immediately after.

i'll have more stupid questions later on, or maybe someone else has a stupid question that needs answering.

It all depends on the surface struck and the angle to that surface.

I shot a bunch of tracers out into a very wet berm at 600 yards and some of them would jump vertically about 300 feet into the air. It seemed to happen when I shot at the not-so-steep part of the berm. The more head-on the bullet went into the berm, the less likely it was to fly up.

I've also seen pistol bullets go into a dirt backstop and fly 50 feet into the air. I suppse it hit a rock or several other bullets already laying in the berm.

Yes, seen some weird stuff too when shooting tracer, no telling where the ricohets go. Neat to watch the bullet in flight before the target too, helps in understanding trajectory.

thanks for the answers, now i got another stupid question:

i bought a 'uncle mikes' sling for my winchester 1300, and i must not be adept at attaching the long end to the short end, i wound up with a LOT of excess slack, and no matter how much i cinch it up, this sling is like attaching a 6 foot strap to the gun with two feet loose on either end.
whats the secret to assembling the sling?
should i expect to be able to have it cinched short enough so that i can have it across my back similar to how a rifle is slung?

Tracers

The further tracers go the more errattic their flight path brcomes as their centre of gravity alters. WWII aircraft gun camera footage give multitudes of examples.
