The latest low cost revolver was a nice S&W M&P (pre-Model 10) from 1950 I paid $350 for this nice specimen with the wonderful 5" barrel. What a sweet shooting revolver it is. I promptly took it to a handgun competition and decided to see what it would do against other revolvers, and ended up winning the revolver class with the fastest aggregate times of the day in ALL classes.

NICE revolvers in every way!!! This one is all original too . . .

I have a Charter Arms .44spl Bulldog Pug,fun gun. Hard to find ammo for it cheap, probly get a .357 next. But only spent $379,new! Im more of a Ruger guy,but those are $600+

$350 is cheap for a used revolver?
I disagree. Look harder.

Both my Security 6 and my Dan Wesson were under $225.

I suggest a used S&W Model 10, 13, 14, 15, 64, 65, 66 or 67 K frame, or a J frame (model 36, etc) if you need it for concealed carry. Some of these guns are usually a little more than $400, but holster worn examples can often be found in your price range. Many of these are L.E. turn-ins, which is a market that is starting to dry up.

You might also get lucky and find an L frame in your price range (581, 586, 681, 686), but you will probably haver to pay a little more.

If you don't know what to look for when evaluating a used revolver, you should bring along someone who does. Do an internet search on "used revolver inspection" and you will get an idea of what to look for.

Southern Ohio guns has Model 10's and Model 64's for $239. They have Model 65's (357 Magnum) for $329.

Call them.

EAA Windicators are well built (although the steel-frame .357 models are heavy!) and inexpensive. Most of the .357's I've seen are actually re-proofed .38's and re-designated (re-marked) .357.

Also consider the Ruger Police Service Six. A person can find one in either 357 magnum or 38 special. These are fixed sight revolvers. Ruger sold a lot of these revolvers to law enforcement and security agencies. They are reliable, tough and are usually less expense than a S&W model 10 or 19. Price range $250 to $350.
Here is a example of the one I own.

Howard

Cheap? Reliable? Appreciate in value?

Smith & Wesson all the way!

I bought a used 1983-made S&W stainless steel Model 65 .357 Magnum, with the very desirable 3" barrel for only $235. The year of purchase? 1991. What is THIS model worth today! LOL

MY POINT . . . there are CHEAP revolvers that work but that will not appreciate in value much through the years, or one can purchase a fine used S&W and watch it appreciate in value, year after year . . . while protecting your life with reliability and accuracy!

".357 EAA Windicators Revolver $250 NIB (Made in Germany)

NEW IN THE BOX as opposed to old and used."

I'd rather have one used Security, Speed, or Service Six than 3 New Windicators.

Have a 45Lc Ruger New Model Blackhawk for sale with a 7.5" Barrel. Smooth shooter and good for a carry gun for hunting.

Opps not under $450.00 sorry bout that!

Are you an FFL? I called SOG, I am not an FFL, and I could not get prices. They also mentioned they had S&W 19's. Anyone an FFL and have their prices? My FFL is not signed up on their site and I don't want to waste his time if they are out of stock or too beat up.

Thanks.

I agree, a S&W M&P or a S&W Chief's Special will fill the bill. Both are great revolvers and both can be had for $400 or less.

Below is a photo of my 1948 M&P with a 1975 M36, they just belong together IMO.

bigdogpete -- I just called and asked about whatever S&W revolvers they had in stock. She listed off the model names to me but because I am not an FFL she wouldn't give prices. When she said Model 19 I asked if it was 357 and she said yes. Maybe it's a call-in-only type of thing.

I can't believe the deals U guys find in pawn shops. In south Fla pawn shops r notorious for overcharging u on guns.
You have to keep looking regularly at pawn shops...
And after visiting several you will find some owners/managers are way better to deal with than others.

Man, I could tell you some stories.
A clueless manager/salesperson can be good or bad. Some sell too high, some sell too low.
How about a minty, matching 1937 Luger for under $300?
My buddy found it, pawn shop. I saw the receipt. And the pistol.
