Sub-sonic ammo? What is best?

I just got suppressor for my semi-auto .22; a Bergara BXR. So, I grabbed a box of Remington Sub-Sonic and some CCI SV. The sub-sonic shot horribly, a 2" group at 50 yds. Certainly was quiet, but terrible accuracy. I followed that with 5 shots using CCI SV. It shot a .5" group. So, its the ammo. What brand do you guys use? I see CCI Quiet on the shelves and will try it. Thanks for your help.

I use whatever I can find.

BTW, the in WW II the Soviets had reduced charges for subsonic loads used with their BraMit suppressor. If the guerillas, who were issued BraMits for sentry removal, ran out of subsonic ammunition, they were instructed to pull the bullets, pour the powder out and reload with only half the powder. The BraMit had the range adjustments for the sights so the user knew what setting to set the sights at.

In my old bolt guns the Aguila shot pretty well but with 22 sub sonic stuff what works well in one gun sucks in the next gun. Pretty much my observation. Actually that holds true with all ammunition especially .22 LR stuff.

I have a CZ 457 ProVarmint and it shoots great with CCI SV! So I just stick with that. I also got some of that Aguila 60gr stuff and it doesn't have quite the same group size but it does stabilize in the 16in barrel. I'm waiting on my SliencerCo Sparrow to get out of jail...

For semi-auto out of my Ruger 10/22, CCI Suppressor is excellent. It's 970 FPS cycles the action perfectly reliably and has turned out to be very accurate. It also works well out of my CZ 457 and is silly quiet while still packing enough punch to kill game humanely. I killed a groundhog that I snuck to within 10 yards and shot with my 10/22 and the suppressor ammo. It's GREAT...IF you can find it.

Depends on the firearm but Eley subsonic is pretty good and there are a number of standard velocity rounds that seem to do well that don’t break the sound barrier out of a rifle. Even the high velocity stuff might me sub out of pistols.

I have many “flavors” on hand and let the firearms tell me what they like on target to make a choice for each of them.

CCI SV is my go to. I've got some Eley Contact and Benchrest Outlaw SA that I run in my heavy barrel 10/22 and I'm in the process of trying Norma Tac 22 it's promising so far. The first three all shoot bug holes at 25.
Stay away from Winchester T22 it won't shoot for crud thru any of my 22s and on top of poor accuracy it has a high FTF rate.

ETA shot a few of the Norma Tac 22s this morning 5 shots 1 jagged hole @25Y so I tried a thing. 20230223_105216.jpg

IMHO rimfires are picky eaters, what one likes the other will hate. My old 22's like the remington sub sonics just fine, and will ding a 6" plate at 100 yards to the point it is a bore. The newer stuff not so much.

You just need to grab what you can and keep trying, then once you find something hope you can find it again.

Thats the Norma TAC22 at 1080 fps? I tried some and it doesn’t run my semiautomatic 22s but it shoots pretty good from my Henry H001. People seem not to like the Winchester M22 but I only had one failure out of a 500 round box. That whole box went through one pistol so I might have just gotten lucky.

CCI Quiet Semi-Auto works pretty well in my TX22's and my SIg P322 for plinking, but it's no world beater for accuracy. Come to think of it none of the sub caliber stuff is. CCI High Velocity 40 grain works best for accuracy and it's not THAT much louder out of a suppressor.

I'm going to try a few different brands/loads. The CCI SV shot very well, certainly squirrel-eye accurate, which is my most frequent target. I was hoping for ultra quiet shots for squirrels with subsonic rounds. Oh well.....the suppressor works well with my B-14R 17HMR. The sonic boom still happens of course, but it sounds like the sound is coming from a distance, not from me. That should help when I'm whacking p-dogs. Thanks for the feedback

Best accuracy from my semiauto rifles has been CCI SV. The best from my semiauto pistol has been too close to call but I settled on Aguila Super Extra standard velocity, which is subsonic from my pistol but not rifles. I just picked one and went with it. In hindsight, I should have chosen something more reliable, but I'll be out of it soon, so I'll move on to a different ammo that is more available and more reliable.

Yes it's the slow tac 22. It ran fine in my suppressed buckmark but the can does add a little back pressure to help function.
The T22 is supposed to be target ammo and is rated at 1150 and prolly averages closer to 1100 out of about every 10 I'll have 2 that go super and 1 that sounds like a squib, they also are a dead soft lead and several of the noses are deformed (looks like while seating) unfortunately I bought a case:cuss:.
The M22 is a plated bullet and rated at 1255

Oh, well that's different then. I didn't know they made a target ammo. I shot my very first 25-yard timed fire target with M22 and got a 96 for 10 shots. Haven't beat or tied it since. :(

For squirrels I use CCI sub sonic small game. They have a hollow point bullet and shoot to the same POA as standard velocity in most of my guns and are just as accurate. They work very good on squirrels.

40gr mini mags are still subsonic from a 4" barrel.

I have a fair amount of CCI SV and Norma TAC22. I prefer the CCI.
For slightly quieter, Aguila Subsonic is nice.
To cycle a stock 10/22, I used to run Rem SS, but it's very dirty, slightly louder, and has not been necessary since swapping out the spring.

I also used to get the truncated cone Win SSHP because they shot well in a CZ452, but that wide open bullet shape will hang up way more than others, and this is the only ammo I have seen lose significant reliability from sitting on a shelf for a few years.
