Suggest a 9mm to me.

Well, ive decided. Im going to be getting a Beretta 9mm pistol, probly a 92fs. ITs a bit easier on the wallet to shoot. But with wolf offering .45 acp in polymer coating, well...i might have to pick that up, along with their 9mm ammo.

A new G17 would fit the bill nicely--that's my weapon of choice. Easy to shoot because it sits nice and low in your hand and has the same trigger pull from the first shot to the last. If you go back and forth between the 1911 and the G17, the different grip angles may annoy you. In that case some people have had luck with an arched MSH in the 1911.

A used USP would be a good choice as well--it shares the grip angle and safety operation of the 1911--you can carry it cocked and locked. I personally don't care for the ergonomics of the USP, but it may work for you. The higher bore axis contributes to muzzle lift, slowing down rapid controlled pairs.

A used SIG 226 is heavier and a little thicker in the grip than the others, but you'll be amazed at the slow fire gorups you'll shoot. I don't care for a long and heavy first shot followed by short and light subsequent shots. Many find themselves adjusting their grips and slowing down in the transition. In a defensive situation you want as few variables as possible.

The best advice I can give you is to rent and borrow as many full-size 9mms as you can find--some guns are better than others for different people. I hope you avoid making all the costly mistakes I made before arriving at 9mm Nirvana.

I'm not one who ordinarily makes recommendations but I could recommend the Browning Hi-Power, as I used to own two. Very shootable and accurate pistols IMO, except for the .40 S&W version. (Again, IMO.) However, my big, wide hands were prone to slide and/or hammer bite by the HP so I eventually sold one and traded the other.

CZ, hands down. I have the ambi version(CZ-85) and it is a fantastic gun. I also reccomend the High Power too. These choices share the same manual of arms and grip angle, so they should point just like your '11. Both can be carried C&L too.

Wow, I just got back from the range, and was shooting a friends Baby eagle in 9mm, full size. And It rocked! I really want one now. I was tearing the center out of the target at 20 yards. I really want one. I think i like it better than the beretta i had picked before.

9mm

After I read where you have decided to purchase a Beretta I'm just adding my 2 cents worth for the heck of it.

I purchased one of the P1's (Walther) from Impact Arms last year and it is a top quality firearm. Slick as a baby's butt, accurate and a pleasure to shoot. Only downside for me is it's a bit large. (I have small hands.) Great pistol to have as a 2nd, or plinker.

I've heard nothing on this thread about KelTec's and because of their initial cost they are disparaged quite a bit as "cheap". BUT - I purchased a new KelTec P11 last year and it has been a great little pistol. Accurate at self defense range, reliable, I'm very pleased with it. In fact I intend to purchase a P32 for concealed carry shortly. KelTec, made in America, by 'merican's, for 'mericans, and they stand by their products 100%. I kept wanting to send my P11 back to the factory for a "free" fluff n' buff but the dang thing just won't mess up to give me a reason. Lot's of pistol for little dinero.....

Last but not least, my little Sig P239 has always been extremely accurate, 100% reliable with any 9mm round I put thru it. It is the most accurate of all of my pistols (to be honest, the P1 is close), and a pleasure to shoot. Can't go wrong with a Sig.

Of course all of this is just my opinion, and there will certainly be no shortage of other folks with other opinions.. Anyway, opinions are like _ssholes.. (We all have one). Best Wishes :)

Arcus 94 (Browning Hi Power clone, runs about $300)
CZ75 or any other CZ variant.

Ruger P89 or P95.

Bersa Firestorm 9mm ($300, works like a small Sig, but made in Argentina).

Did anyone mention CZ!?

Want polymer?
Go with XD.

Want Steel or Alloy?
Go with CZ! (PCR if for concealed carry)

Want Single Action Only?
Go with Browning Hi-Power; or
Go with CZ 75 (SA); or
Go with 1911 in 9mm.

Want for Home Defense...not for carry?
Try above: or
Go with Beretta 92 or 96 (or Taurus)

Yeah, for <$5 c's, I STRONGLY recommend trying the:
1. CZ75BD (decocker) or CZ75B
2. IMI/MRI Baby Eagle 9mm
3. Springfield's XD 9

I've not had good luck with my Beretta's and have since sold them all (notorious for weak parts and even worse service from Beretta USA). The alloy frames just can't stand up to the shooting and comp I put them thru. So it's steel / stainless or super-plastic (XD) for me.

For about $500 or so (out the door), CZ's new(er) P-01 is a hoot to shoot and much better suited for carry, but, as I said above, I'm going to wait for the highly rumored and much anticipated CZ SP-01 (steel frame).

I loves me CZ75BD, Baby Eagle and, to a lesser degree, me XD. But they are all tools and each excels for different jobs.

But none compare to my Sig P226, preferably in ST (Stainless slide and frame).

Yes, even though I had to sell two guns to afford my Sig P226ST (NIB), it was one of the best buys I've ever made.

You may wish to consider waiting a bit longer for a truly remarkable firearm rather than jumping onto the "wunder-nine" band-wagon and settling for a Beretta for some instant hooneymoon gratification only to find yourself stuck in a long marriage of disappointment or an expensive divorce.

Add used guns to your search, and you should consider:

Glock 17
Glock 19
Sig Pro
Sig 228
Sig 226
Sig 225
Sig 239
Beretta 92
Browning High Power

I just made a 9mm decision. 9mm's I've owned in the past were a used
Smith & Wesson Model 39-2, and a new Ruger P-95. The 39-2 is a discontinued model. The P-95 was 100% reliable out of the box with the 115 gr. FMJ's, 115 gr. JHP's, and 124 gr. JHP's which I ran thru it. I feel both pistols are too light for fast follow-up shots. I tried a Glock 17, and a Beretta 92FS. I ended up buying a new, double action only, CZ75 with one 10-round magazine for $320 ($300, shipping included, plus $20 transfer fee to my gun dealer.), which I'm picking up tomorrow night. I bought 2 high capacity Mec-Gar magazines for $46 shipped. I bought the CZ75 without even firing one. Why? It fits my hand better than any pistol, it is fairly heavy, members here and at another site say it it's supposed to be reliable with about any ammunition you feed it, and it is reasonably priced. My second choice was more expensive, but it was a Glock 17C which has a ported barrel.

IS CZ playing the MD compiance game? If they approved that new lock (like i heard, not sure) Then i could get one. But the Baby eagle looks a bit nicer (Read cooler) though.

Yes, they are supplying fired cases with some of their guns. I've seen 75's, 85's, 83's and P01's all with fired cases listed on suppliers list of avaliable guns.

The Baby Eagles are avaliable as well, they are even being shipped with 17 round mags!
