I'm not looking for a carry gun, as I have one of those already. I'd like everyone's opinion's and suggestions on a good, reliable, accurate 1911 that I can use for punching holes in paper.

I have been looking at the Kimber TLE II and the Springfield TRP, but I'm open to any other suggestions you might have.

Also, if you know a gunshop that has an excellent price on the pistol you suggest, please post up as well.

Thanks in advance.

Personally one of the best buys out there right now is the Sig GSR Revolution. Beautiful gun that you can probably pick up for around $800 and has all the bells and whistles you would probably end up adding on to any other 1911. It has, BY FAR, the nicest trigger action of any 1911 I've ever touched. Sig is actually increasing this line pretty substantially so you might want to see their whole 1911 line which is up on the sigarms.com site.

I'm very happy with my Para SSP,perhaps not as high rent as you're looking for but it shoots great.

I will second the Smith and Wesson recommendation.

The only two brands of stock 1911s that I have always had 100 percent reliability with are Colt and Smith&Wesson.

I have had uniformly bad luck with Kimbers and Springfields. I have owned several of each and have never had one that was 100 percent, bet-your-life-on reliable.

Those sig's look really nice. I especially like this one:

1911's

Evil- I like Colts; however, I'm not a big fan of series 80. If you can find one of the new series 70 remakes for around $850, buy it. Otherwise I've been impressed with the Dan Wesson 1911's- extremely well-fit, good quality small parts (mostly Ed Brown), nice, crisp trigger pulls, etc. with street prices around $850- $900. I've got two of them in 10mm coming (also available in .45 ACP). Good luck in making your choice and good shooting! :)

You can punch holes in people with them too!

Take a look at the Springfield Armory 'loaded' model. It comes factory with hundreds of dollars worth of upgrades like match grade barrel, springs, full length guiderod, parkerized finish, night sights, beavertail... for about $700.

If you can swing a SA TRP, that'd be my first pick.

Other honorable mentions:
- Kimber TLE
- Kimber Series I (anything under $1K, will be used but so worth it)
- SA Loaded
- 2 SA Milspec/GI's
- Colt NRM Government
- STI Trojan
- S&W 1911PD

Not to hijack the thread, but I'm in the same boat with pretty much the same specs.

Between the Springfield Loaded and the Kimber Custom II, which would be the better pick?

The Springfield, very few reliability issues compared to the Kimber.

I used to be a big Kimber fan and own two "series none" but after they changed the trigger and the extractor I have been seriously checking out the Trojans.

The Trojan I handled had a fit and finish that was awesome.
Springfield TRP would not be a bad choice either. Colt would be near the bottom of the list for many reasons.

Colt XSE!

Colt Series 80, Stainless Steel XSE all the way!

I have a Colt series 70 and a series 80. But I love my Kimber Stainless II. I've fed it nothing but hand loads, target to pin tumblers, and it functions flawlessly. It rivals many custom built pistols for accuracy. Very tight fit slide, barrel and bushing. The trigger is one of the best 'out of the box', I've ever felt. A nice 3.5lbs that's almost a surprise when it lets loose. The extraction is perfect even with a mixed bag of at least ten different manufactures of brass in my boxes. Get the adjustable sight model. You won't be sorry. I'm not sold on all this MIM parts bunk. I'm a picky person when it comes to the function and reliability of my firearms, -After only a few thousand rounds down the pipe, I am very happy with my Kimber.

Buy a Kimber My custom classic target has been 100% reliable since 1999, I'v got about 7,000 rounds on it and it still looks like its new. Feeds fires and ejects every type of ammo I have ever fed it.

My TLE II only has about 2500 rounds, but it has also been 100%.

You also cant go wrong with a gold cup My 80 series has been 100% with a few thousand rounds fired. The only problem was that the fron sight needed to be restaked.

The trigger on it is unbelievable, many of the bullseye shooters at my club have Les Bayers and Rock Rivers, the trigger on My gold cup beats them all.

I woul dpass on any SIG handgun The GSR had alot of problems which is why they are now selling at a steep discount. My new SIG p220 is the least reliable gun I have ever owned. SIGs quality stinks.
