I've recently had the good fortune to have been lent a 7.62x39mm rifle and am looking to see what the most popular/available cartridges are for this caliber and what you would like to see tested in ballistic gelatin. 5 cartridges (shots) can be tested with the blocks that I plan to have on hand in the coming two weeks or so.

The poll will be open for 3 days, starting right now. All that I ask, is for a new, complete box of the ammunition type(s) that is to be tested. Things move surprisingly fast once the gelatin is on the table and the gun/ammo are out ... I've had mixed boxes sent to me (where 1-2 bullets were from last shooting session, mixed in with the ammo that I wanted to test.) Sending a common FMJ into a gelatin block, when you thought you were loading a premium JHP, makes one feel, I don't know... crunchy. :)

Thank you.

I'd really like to see the Barnaul 125 grain SP's, but since you dont have them listed, the Wolf 154 SP's would be nice.

Thanks for all your tests and efforts too by the way. :)

I voted Winchester 123gr JSP

I handload that bullet for my AK rifles, and I've taken whitetail deer with it. I'd be interested to see how it opened up in ballistic gelatin compared to how it worked inside my deer. ;)

I voted for the Corbon and two Wolf loads.

I'd also be interested in seeing the Silver Bear 8M1 "Effect" rounds that my local gunstore is selling for the same price as the 124 grain Wolf ammo. My understanding is the dimple on the nose of the bullet is supposed to replicate hollow point effects or something? Be interested to see if there is anything to all that.

id like to see a 123, 124 or 125 tested. as these seem the most available weight range. and something in Wolf/Bear/Tiger as these seem the be the most common ammo

It looks like Wolf has got this poll cornered.

Here is my offer - if someone can send me a complete box of *green* tracers for testing, I will test one of any other 7.62x39mm that you would like to see tested.

Thank you for voting...

OK. Wolf 154gr soft point is the poll winner. All that I ask of THR is for someone to send me one complete box of this ammunition (or a donation that will cover it) and I will test this cartridge in ballistic gelatin.

Thank you,

I shoot some tracer when I can find it at the gun shows. Really to me it's just for the ooh-aah factor, not for any kind of penetration value.

Can't find any Wolf 154 around here otherwise I'd send you some.

Update : We're still waiting on someone to send the ammunition. I imagine a box of it costs about 5USD - this is pretty small compared to the cost of making the block and conducting the test.

The test will be on hold until someone sends the ammo.

So has anyone ever tested 7.62x25 (Tokarev) in gel?
I'd love to see the FMJ tested vs the JHP that Wolf puts out as I've been wondering how much that JHP will expand.
