Many thanks to krochus for buying the ammo for this test. Donations are still welcome, of course!

If anyone can get me the >green< tracers, come hell or high water, I will shoot them into gelatin.

@351W... I've got enough sandbags to put behind the block, that that shouldn't be a problem...

Hear so many myths about this caliber! Pretty tired of hearing
comparison to 30/30 when the only comparison to it is the velocity
of the 125 gr falls below the heaviest common (170) A 150 to 154
would be a true test if this cartridge should have serious consideration
for game.

I'm really sick of people who actually believe the manufacturer ballistics for 30-30 are correct and have no idea whatsoever what the term Ballistic Coefficient means and yet are experts on ammunition preformance.

30-30 velocities per barrel length

Well said, Krochus!

My whitetail deer dropped quite quickly after getting hit with a 123gr Winchester softpoint last fall. I handload for my AKs, and they chronograph just a hair over 2450fps using Accurate Arms 1680. So I am more than qualified to compare the round with the venerable .30-30 Winchester, which, as you revealed, ain't all that.

Everybody's a ballistician, don't ya know... :scrutiny:

I probably use the same load you do, The velocity is the same anyhow. Only I use the Nosler 125grn ballistic tip. Using this rather slippery bullet makes for a surprisingly flat trajectory.

Update :

The 154gr Wolf JSP ammo has just been ordered - look for the test to appear within the next 2 weeks.... I've had a hell of a time getting this ammo - I hope it is more easily available for everyone in the near future.

Nice JE223, I look forward to that test.

And here's that ATTABOY which you deserve for sharing this info with us. :)

Why settle for gelatin? Now that all the history and records from the KGB are available for sale, you could find out the terminal ballistics on the actual intended targets! I'm sure they have pictures and film clips, too. Of course, it might not be an accurate reflection on a modern target since most dissidents carried virtually no body fat, unlike most Americans.

i've got wolf standard black box 122 gr. hp that i would gladly donate if you would like. just give me the shipping info!
