In addition to what others said about shoulder holsters, most public ranges won't allow people to practice drawing from them. Organized competitions don't allow them either. They don't like the gallery getting swept on the draw. The presentation also is more difficult with the shoulder holster because you are coming across the target rather than up the target, so the possibility of sweeping past the target is increased.

Interesting thoughts.
Ive never considered a shoulder holster for carry other than hunting.

Wouldn't most of the same concerns apply to a crossdraw belt holster as well?

I like the crossbreed type if you are after IWB. Works great as long as the barrel is not too long. It starts to be a bit uncomfortable for me beyond a G17, but still okay, especially if not sitting. The new stealthgear has my attention too, but I have not tried it.

As to the shoulder holster, they work very well in certain situations. I have one, an excellent Alessi, for my g19 and it gets worn for long car trips. Perfect there as I can draw it AND the gun does not dig into my back or butt in the seat. Other random applications every once in a while too, but I will say it is not comfortable or stable feeling when you are out doing things, at least not compared to a good belt holster.

Hello. I am asking for suggestions/thoughts on a daily carry holster for glock. Obviously comfort is a factor. I also like the idea of a shoulder holster. Any thoughts for or against a shoulder holster would be appreciated. Any and all comments are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks for the help in advance.

This is a very broad question, kind of like asking, "What is the meaning of life?" ;)

OK, short answer: Andrews Monarch. Expensive, but very well-designed, and very, very well-made. Second to none.

I rarely wear my Monarch shoulder rig, because, well, climate. I live in the wet, green, oft-tropical SE corner of Texas. We usually get just a few days of winter each year. We can go several years without a freeze. I wear my Monarch mostly in well-air-conditioned vehicles, on road trips. I have two sets of components for my Monarch; one for right-hand carry of a SIG P229, and the other for lefty carry of an SP101. I have considered eliminating the ammo carriers, and using just the two holster bodies; ammo can ride at belt level. I have also considered carrying a serious blade sheath opposite a holster body.

I have and use the Galco Miami Classic, and I like it, but shoulder holsters are trickier than it appears. When I draw, I put my weak hand on the strong shoulder, to avoid pointing at my arm.

Wise move! This can also act to protect your neck and lower face from taking damage in a close-range encounter, placing large arm bones and muscles into the path of incoming threats. Alternatively, the upraised arm can shield your face and head, to a degree, from higher-angle threats. Check out the Shivworks website, which should still cover some of this. Steve Tarani also has a "big nose" defensive move that shields the face and forehead, though I do not recall seeing it on any easily searchable site. Neither of these gentlemen developed these as shoulder-rig-draw-specific, but these moves do serve double-duty, to get the support-side arm clear of the muzzle.

I decided to make a second post for belt holsters. To make a long story story short, I will skip most of what I have tried over the years, and simply say what I like now, for the Glock G19. Outside the belt, I like Kramer holsters, made of horsehide. The Vertical Scabbard is a winner. I have these for pistols other than Glocks, that I have carried in the past, too. With my retirement from LEO-ing imminent, it will soon be time to transition to being a lefty, as age/wear/tear have not been kind to my right hand. (Fortunately, I am a natural lefty, with such fine-motor-skills tasks as writing, and developed ambidextrous shooting skills since day one.) I recently bought a lefty Kramer Vertical Scabbard, horsehide, to be my "primary" carry rig, in retirement.

If Kydex, or a similar thermal-molded plastic, is your preferred material for outside-the-belt carry, JM Custom Kydex and Raven Concealment Systems make excellent products, that I have used regularly, for carrying Glocks.

For inside-the-trousers rigs, I am finding JM Custom Kydex to be second to none. The JMCK site has good advice about which holsters to select for specific carry positions and body types. They are responsive to e-mails, too. Good thermal-molded rigs are available from Dark Star Gear, Concealed Carry Concepts, and Dale Fricke, too.
