I am on the hunt for a special purpose AR. I want something similar to the Colt LE6940 and would consider just buying one of those if I could find one.

this is what I know I want:
Monolithic Rail Upper Receiver
chrome lined barrel
dual stage trigger

my reason for wanting the monolithic rail is I want to use this gun for night predator hunting. I have a PVS-14, a USGI 3x, Aimpoint CompM4s and plan to acquire an LDI DBAL-I2 which will all go on that top rail so I need some straight real estate to mount it on.

I know of someone that has a Sig setup very similar to this. I know it is going to be heavy when it's done, but it will be used from prone or sitting supported by a bipod.

so my question is, can I find something like this off the shelf somewhere or should I have one built? and other than a person I had build another one for me where would any of you suggest getting that done? I have no desire to attempt it myself. thanks

I found several on Gunbroker right at $1500 or a bit less. Buying off GB is simple.. find an FFL in your area willing to take the transfer (GB will give you a list of dealers) send the funds and in a few days you'll have your rifle. Pay whatever transfer fee your dealer wants.. done.

i also run pvs 14, aimpoint and PEQ15. you just need a rail for it. you don't need a monolithic rail.

nevertheless, doesn't colt make a 6940 model which is their 6920 with a monolithic rail? if that's what you're looking for

If you need a lot of rail real estate you might check with VLTOR. They do make a monolithic upper receiver but also a monolithic rail and floating handguard that attaches to the top of a receiver rail and the barrel nut / D-ring to provide a rail that spans across the receiver to the front sight.

thanks everyone!

I just registered an account on Gunbroker but I still haven't seen one at $1500 but I know I have not exhausted my search. I have someone that I believe will do the FFL part.

I notice this model has "restricted LE only" stamped on it. I assume it is OK for a civilian to purchase this though or it wouldn't be on gunbroker??

I looked at the VLTOR and also at a Mega Arms upper. If I can buy the Colt LE I think it may be worth the extra money to own a Colt.

hahaha... as luck would have it, I called my FFL friend and he has one one hand! I will be the proud owner of a (NIB) LE6940 tomorrow. Thanks for everyones comments!
