Suggestions of a 17hmr or 17 mach 2

In Varmint Hunter magazine, I've read several reports that say the 17-grain VMAX bullet does not expand beyond 75 yards in the 17 HM2. Velocity is too low beyond that range for that bullet. For this reason alone, the 17 HMR should be THE choice for hunting. The 17 HMR is an honest 150-yard small game hunting rifle. The 17 HM2 would be OK for target shooting, but the ammo is not that much less than the 17 HMR ammo.

.17MachII- Barnyard accurate.

The .17 Hornady MachII and the .17 HMR are probably the two most under rated cartridges in use. The mach II is ideal for those chucks grazing under the farm equipment if equipped with a scope. A shot to the head at 100 feet doesn't exit, and the cartridge is so pinpoint accurate there isn't a lot of worry about equipment tires as long as one waits for the optimum placement. On the other hand a .22 LR hollow point will pass through a lung shot on a chuck at 200'.
Ballistic facts and figures get real interesting if you decide to limit drift to 2 inches in a 5 mph wind and compare the foot pounds per square inch of frontal area among the various rimfires at that limited range. http://lambadafan.com/ballistics.html
If you are curious about the power of the .17HMR 20 grain Full Metal Jacket against soft A-36 steel some results can be found here. Unfortunately I ran out of scope and range at 433 yards against .031" A-36 steel sheet but I will be adding 200 yards to the range before winter sets in. I kept moving the targets out until there is no penetration.

Get the 17HMR. The CZ is a very good rifle, as is the Savage 93R17. This is what my Savage 93 will do:
