Recently put together this "Super RECCE" upper, for use with the
M4-96D suppressor

Noveske 14.5" "AFGHAN" SS barrel with Gemtech Bilock (to 16"), LaRue 13.2, LaRue gas block, Gemtech M4-96D, Magpul rail covers, LMT receiver, YM BC, PRI front, Troy rear BUIS, TA11 ACOG, and LaRue ACOG mount. Lower is just one I grabbed with a M93B and ERGO (haven't upgraded the grip yet).

I chose the 14.5 Noveske for its mass (to handle the suppressor & its heat) and because it had a midlength gas system. The LaRue 13.2 was chosen for thermal shielding of the barrel. This one is using the LaRue steel barrel nut, instead of the lighter aluminum one. I designed this upper to basically shoot tons with the suppressor on, and avoid burning me or the barrel too bad.

Thanks to Paul @ MSTN for some help.

With the suppressor installed, it's a little front-heavy. With it off, the carbine is very short and handy.

Zak,

Nice!

In the voice of Bill Murray in "What About Bob": "Gimmie, Gimmie, Gimmie, I need, I need, I need".

Can be shot without ears, but they help.
It's quieter for close spectators, since most of the report from the gun itself seems to come back through the action.

Zak,

You cost me more money than any one else on these boards, even DHart with his revolver photos.

Zak,
I mean this from the bottom of my heart when I say......

I hate you.

BTW, I've been hearing of the Noveske barrels from Grant at G&R. How is the accuracy on the stubby Noveske?

I'll have to agree with Rich on this one. And I normally don't even go for AR's. I can honestly say that yours are the only ones that have ever 'done it for me'. I think it is the simplicity....

Zak,

That's a thing of beauty..absolute beauty!
Wanna be my new best friend???

It's not that hard to get them set up to "do it". The most important thing is to figure out what you want to do with the rifle, and then make good choices to serve that purpose.

I have two specific suggestions: 1. always buy quality, it pays off in the long run. 2. have someone who knows that they're doing build your AR15. That could mean a factory Colt or Bushmaster gun, or it could mean a custom builder.. FWIW, the most reliable and accurate AR15 uppers I've used so far are the ones built by MSTN.

Very nice.

I have to ask tho, don't you feel horrible with all these high-end AR's and tactical rifles, when so many underpriveledged gun owners (ahem), must make do with A2 20", iron sighted guns?

It's a travesty. All Bush's fault. Must be those tax cuts for the rich.

I demand reparations!!!!!
