I wish these were legal in MN. They'd be not only fun to shoot, but good for shooting gophers, coyotes, and other critters.

Gun suppressors are now legal for hunting in North Carolina

For decades, the closest most people got to a gun suppressor – those metal cylinders that reduce a gun’s bang – was seeing one on a movie screen in the hands of an assassin or gangster.

“I have traditionally been opposed to silencers in a county as urban as Mecklenburg, where open spaces are limited,” Bailey said in a statement. “That said, I will ask my attorney to research the law and advise as to how much leeway I have in approving or denying their issuance. If the law mandates they be approved, then I will follow the law.”

Bailey said only a handful of requests came across his desk before the law was passed. He has rejected all of them. .

I live in a state where suppressors are legal to own and shoot, but illegal to hunt with. I would like to see them be legal for small game.

I'm sure you will not be giving your position away by letting us know which state you are referring to

In Alabama we can't hunt with them. Unless something has changed in the past few years. since I only have one for .22 it isn't really an issue for me. For deer hunting I personally don't see a real advantage though I'm sure someone has a good reason to use them. Hogs, coyotes and other varmint types I can see the advantage but how quiet is a .308 supressed?

How many states are suppressors legal to hunt with? The only thing I found was this, which said 14 states allow hunting with suppressors. But this was as of January 2012.

"Other states were polled and of the 33 states returning the inquiry, 14 of those states currently allow the use of suppressed firearms for game hunting purposes."

The provision removing the ban on hunting with suppressors was placed into a larger bill that broadened where we can legally carry concealed handguns here in the great state of NC.

It was placed in there by my own representative from Wilkes County, Shirley Randleman. Believe it or not, (I'm in disbelief about the whole thing myself) I was the one that brought this to her attention with an email exchange back in May of last year. I also sent her a list of states that had already made hunting with suppressors legal. She talked to some folks at the NC Wildlife Commission, and they stated unequivocally that they had no problem with it, in fact they preferred they be made legal due to the growing feral hog problem. I emailed back in forth with all of them 5 or six more times, but didn't hear much more about it after last fall. Then lo and behold, I pick up the paper......boy was I surprised. It goes to show that at least in rural America, our representatives listen. Thank you, Rep. Randleman.
