Well Monday I went to my local gun shop and was looking into a shotgun, I didn't have a lot of money to blow, but none the less wanted a shotgun, They where having a sell on the Norinco 981(remington 870 clone) and I had him order me one, I got that one because the sale had that one for 20.00 less then the Norinco 982, so he ordered one, and I called today and he had recieved it but hadn't had a chance to actually look at it, and I was on my way.... I got there and he pulled the box out from the back, and put it together all the time saying This is a 870, and wow I really like this thing, I told him yeah my buddy has the 982 and has shot the crap out of it, and the only problem he had was the Ghost sights fell off, but he just superglued them back on. and hasn't had any more problems with them After he finished putting it together he sat there and just eyed it, saying that he couldn't believe how much like the 870 it was, and for the price it was a really nice shotgun, he even went on to say that he normally doesn't like the Chinese crap, but he was impressed by this one, and has now decided to carry it in the store. I told him that when they first came out in the city where I used to live they couldn't keep them in stock and the store never had any problems with them coming back..
So next weekend I'm going to ake it out and put it through it's paces and I don't think I will be disappointed... But he was suprised at the build of the shotgun for being a Norinco it's a nice budget shotgun.....

I refuse to give my money to the Chinese Army, unless it's for something nobody else made (the Winchester 1897 clone)...... they aren't THAT well made, and I've handled half a dozen of their shotguns. Buy American.. get a Remington.

See that is the difference, I likce to save money, so since it's a gun that won't get much light, I want it as cheap as I can get. If I wanted a Remington I would have bought it, But then again I see plenty of other people who are extremely satisfied with thier Norinco's....

Be careful, as I have personally witness a Norinco shotgun disintegrate twice on the range in live fire - the first time the barrel fell off!

yeah but then again how many times have you heard or for that matter seen the results of a KB, especially in the Glock... Does that mean I wouldn't handle a Glock..NO But I'll let you know how it does within the next week or so.... Like I said I have a buddy that has the 982, and he has fired it ALOT, and said the ghost ring sites fell off, but he just superglues them back on, I got the 981 and since it has the fiber optic site, I am not soo worried about that....

I'm really curious how cheap this thing was, I mean you could get a used 870 for like a 150 bucks without too much trouble. OR a brand new mossy for around 200...used ones even less.

And comparing a Chicom rip off clone to a glock is not a valid comparison, hell the reason your gun is so cheap is because they use Laogai slave labor to build it.

And I thought importing Norinco products were banned, after they attempted to sell ballistic missles to the Iranians.

I don't mean to jump on you and I'm all for saving a buck, but for me, I'll spend the extra money and buy American or European, anywhere that doesn't support the enemies of my country.

it was under 200.00, now I had looked all over at all three of my local gun stores, I live in a small town, and a couple bigger stores in the Tacome, Olympia area, I even went to the Law enforcement store in Tacoma, had some ok Used ones and I am just fine with the Norinco..
I wasn't comparing Norinco's and Glocks, I mearly made refrence to the fact that even name brand products fail, not just off brand.
Just remember that we have migrant workers here in the US that do alot of the agriculteral work for alot less then you or I would probably do it.
Taken from a website on Chinese affairs. The laogai population includes common criminals, accused individuals awaiting trial (pre-trial detention often lasts as long as ten years), and political offenders sentenced to "reform through labor."
So if thats the case why is not ok to use them there but it's ok here.... Check out our own prison work program's, I mean should schools not buy desks, or chairs, or other goods that are manufactured in prisons, because the inmates make between $.37 to a high of like $1.37....... It's the same principal, and there is nothing that I can find that states that the firearms are produced by the laogais.....

I try to limit the amount of stuff I buy from countries that "employ" slaves.
I would love an 1897 but I will not be buying a "new" one and most likely will never have a real one before they are all gone. The price of scruples I guess.
I have a gaggle of real 870's that were less than 200, many under 150, some less. In fact I only paid over 200 for my first one.
But then, buying a gun that "won't get much light" is not for me either.
But 'em. Shoot 'em. Often.
Mike

well that is the plan, but I can only get out to shoot when I can, and it's not all the time, believe me if I could be out burning through the ammo, smelling the gunpowder all the time I woudl be all over that....
Yes you might have a gaggle of 870's but as I said I live in a rather small town, I mean the local store in the town has like 7 pistols, and a hand full of rifles, all over priced, the next town same thing, the town after that, has a pretty good selection and is where I get most of my firearms since they are competativly priced. Here let me put it like this the biggest store we have in town is Walmart..... I have to go about 50 miles to get to anything else.... Would I buy lots of Norinco's no probably not, but this one will work for me..

yeah and I'll post how it does when I get a chance to go out and burn the ammo.... probably next weekend unless the wife doesn't want to go them maybe this weekend......

kd7ctv,

Thumbs up for your purchase.

Like another member said, I'm glad that you're pleased with your purchase.

Get out to the range and pound some shot through her.

I was surprised with the Norinco build quality on an 870 clone that was present at a shotgun course that I was in. This Norinco was a loaner/rental that the instructors had up for grabs, and according to them had been through A LOT. For what it's worth, it was the only "870" in the class that didn't have problems.

yeah I am thinking of how to get out tomorrow.... I mean I have to convine the wife she doesn't want to go......lol She did hurt her knee and I don't think that she woudl do very well to be out shooting, but then again I also had gallbladder surgery last week, but am recovering very fast.

I have a neighbor that wants to go, he has a 870 wingmaster with the 28 inch barrel that wants to get out and shoot as well, so I am thinking maybe we can get out tomorrow.....

I've sold maybe half a dozen of the 870 clones to various people in the Anchorage area. I stopped selling them on principal. I'd rather pay money to a Mexican/American company like Mossberg than to Chinese Slave owners. BUY AMERICAN! yes, Mexico is on the American continent too...

The Chinese do a really good job with the 1911 and their shotguns are decent as well. It's that Communism thing that got my dander up. I'm not above buying another one and selling it, but I'm not going out of my way to do it.

I find all this talk of slave labor amusing.

A slave is some one who has most of the fruits of their labor taken by their owner.

I pay almost twice as high a marginal income tax rate as the fellows who work right alongside me, doing the same thing.

Seems like I am a slave of the US gov't.

As you might can tell, I find a progressive rate income tax structure immoral.

China is a strange country. No longer communist, not quite capitalist, (for the majority of its citizens).

Like myself, I consider China to be a work in progress.

I may, or may not, choose to purchase Chinese goods. As a "small l" libertarian, I think that you should have the same choices.

Ok went out shooting today, you know to break them in. I wasn't out as long as I wanted to be, but I got 25 rounds through it. It fired really nice, as nice as the Remington's that we use at work, but for the price I will not complain....
I am going to try to get out tomorrow, and burn the other 100 rounds I have for it, and the 250 for my pistols..
I had my wife take pics, since she sat in the jeep because there where too many bees out there and she's alergic.

China is taking over everything. I can find only one brand of Mandarin oranges not canned in China. Dole imports theirs' from Spain, at least nominally a member of NATO.

My son once had a Norinco .45 auto. It seemed to be a good gun, but he traded it for a Browning HP 9mm in a few months. Dr. Libourel at, "Gun World" has a Norinco .45 that he likes.

the academy stores around here sell the *70 for $219. Sometimes they run them on sale for $199. I have a Norinco copy of the Ithaca 37 Riot gun. I like it, it stays by the bed. I dont ever plan on shooting thousands of rounds through it, but it does ok. I have a early 870 wingmaster and a Browning Gold camo auto for my hunting guns. I would like to get a 870 next time they have em for $199 though!

OK I took it out agan today and put 125 rounds through it as fast as I could fire them and reload, Gotta say it handled nice, no FTF, and no FTE's I multilated the box that I was using with the target on it. I got to say I like this shotgun...

I bought one earlier this week. See my post "I bought a Chinese 870".
It cost me $139 bones from Big 5. I would have shelled out (no pun intended :p ) almost $500 for an equivalent 870 police. I used to
have a "real" 870 Express and it was a real pos. I had to practically
pull the forearm off to get it to eject. The simple fact of the matter
is they seem to be decent shotguns. I remember when I was a kid
all the ol'timers would say "you don't want that Japanese crap". Well,
we know about Japanese quality now. Manufacturing firearms
is not rocket science. The metallurgy is not complicated, especially
for a shotgun. The thing is that some people can't see through the
fog of their idealogy and politics to form an objective opinion. American
workers and unions have made American products sub standard
and way overpriced. ;) Oh ya, I have a Norinco 1911 too and it's the
best 1911 I've ever owned. I guess I'm a commie.

It's called "The High Road". :neener:

PS. Are these guns coming from Japan now? I did not know that.
