Well, it has been confirmed. Pakistani 7.62 has been reported as being sighted at some gunshows and AIM is supposed to receive some next week. I'm not familiar with Paki, and honestly am a little leery of it. From what I have been able to glean, it's better than Indian. The other downfall I see is cost. The projected cost at AIM is 220.00 per K.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with Paki? I am considering using my ammo money to (hopefully) buy some pull-down brass and surplus bullets.

As always, any input is appreciated.

Stupid question, but...

are we talking 7.62x39 or 7.62 NATO?

I assume NATO, from the price per thousand. Right?

Anybody ever shoot any Paki?

I know what Silver Bear is like. It's new manufacture from the (Uly? Novisibirsk?) plant in Russia. Not match ammo, but it won't hurt your .308.

If Paki is like Indian, it WILL hurt your gun.

Mike, yeah, it's 7.62x51. I should have been more clear. I don't know if it's actually NATO-spec. though. I get really picky about the differences between 7.62, 7.62 NATO, and .308 Win.

I'd stay away from anything Paki. Having lived there I can assure you that everything they make is sh*t. They will cheat on components quality and pocket the money.

Beside, don't be surprised if part of the money earned goes to Al Queda and the Taliban.

Given that the Paki Army uses G3s and MG3s, I'm going to assume any actual surplus ammo is 7.62 NATO, although I wouldn't know about the quality.

And dammit, when your title said 7.62 I was hoping for 7.62x39.

ditto on their brit ammo.I bought a bunch of it click...boom.I ended up pulling the bullets and using them for reloading.:( .

nothing could be worse than that surplus indian .308 ammo. i'm still shooting
the paki .303 from samco and it is still hitting in the black.......

I read on another board it has corrosive primer compounds but don't know for sure. AIM says non-corrosive in their ad but who knows.

The price is good, but there is lots of crap out there so be careful.

At this point in the .308 surplus world I'll just take whatever I can get.

I'm with you. It's awful right now.

eh, I'd rather pay more and get boxer primed. I'm still waiting for some more Lake City to show up.

Good. :) I'll shoot up all the berdan stuff. I don't worry about whether or not I'm running reloadable through the belt-feds, they sure are rough on brass.

ny32182, from what I understand some Czech 7.62 is corrosive along with the Chinese Norinco .308. I'm sure there are probably others, but they are in the minority.

The Sellier and Bellot .308 from the early 1980's that Samco sold is corrosive. Can't say about the Chinese.

As to Indian, the 1990's was terrible. The 1970's is pretty decent, on par with the Pakistani if I understand correctly.

I love it when the catalogs call the ammo, "mildly corrosive". Really? Isn't that like being "mildly pregnant"? I've never shot the Pakistani ammo, so I can't say. Best to use a friends rifle to test it out. Bwahahahaha!

counterman6, it's funny you should mention that. At the last gunshow I went to, I overheard a dealer telling a new laminate M44 owner that he should only shoot the mildly corrosive stuff because the "full corrosive would eat out your bore in a matter of minutes."

Yikes...
