So yesterday I was at an antique show, and found a booth selling old military uniforms, patches, pouches, helmets, and bayonets. The gentleman had an M4 bayonet for the M1 Carbine (which I own). Anyhow I bought it. It got me thinking, do most surplus rifle collectors also buy accessories for the rifles they own? I'm thinking items like bayonets, cleaning rods/kits, ammo pouches, slings, special tools, etc. So, the question is, do you as a milsurp collector have or buy accessories for your rifles?

I like to have a proper bayonet and sling for all my military rifles. If I find a cheap cartridge box, magazine carrier, or ammo belt to go along with them, that's fine, but it's not something I'm going to be carrying around like I'm going on patrol.

shoot it till the wood falls off.
Like GCBurner what am I gonna do get all dressed up like a soldier 50years ago and keep the block safe? Just shoot em till the government takes em. And most important Have Fun.

Well I know I'll skew the data a bit.

That's from being a militaria collector first (and the attendant OCD <g>).
So, I have accessories for things I don't own

Like a 1943-issue BAR belt on USMC suspenders, in Landing Party order. Ok, I do have the very rare leather BAR toolkit for the 7 o'clock belt pouch. But, it's not like I have a '43-dated canteen in the carrier (and I don't have a first-aid pouch on, mostly for lack of a reference as to "where" one goes--see, not totally compulsive <g>).

Ok, so I do have a complete issue of 782 gear suitable for either 1903A3 or Garand--but, I collect that stuff, too.

[Expletive] but I hate being unemployed--I miss my Garand (among several others).

For an SKS, only the blade bayonets seem to have the looks of combat bayonets, but they don't fit on most Norincos.

Authentic bayonets for an Enfield #5 or Garand can be very expensive. Why not spend the money on mo' ammo or gunpowder?

Should be receiving an actual East German AK sling fairly soon, and I don't have any East German gun.
A friend from West Berlin has an E. German AK assembled from parts.

I had my Enfield bayonets years and years before I had an Enfield rifle. I got them out of a barrel of imported and US bayonets in a surplus store in West Virginia when I was a kid for 75-cents apiece. I'ts taken me quite a while to get the correct rifles to fit. People in WVa would cut them off and grind them down into cheap hunting knives.

I won't really go searching for all the accessories. I did buy a bayonet for my K31 because I thought it looked pretty neat in the picture (CheaperThanDirt), and it looked amazing on the rifle. :D.

If I can find the one actually serialized to the rifle, I'd jump on it, but that's about it. Maybe the serialized sling too. Hard to say with the sling. Other than that, no, I won't really go look for an accessory. But if I tend to see one I like, and I have a gun for at the shop or flea market/garage sale, and the price is right, I'm coming home with another goody... Just can't help myself sometimes.

I have quite a few accessories, from bayonets to stripper clip holders. But I'll admit I don't use them much. The good slings come in handy, though.

I collect various Mosins, differeing countrys and models and each country also had it types of accrutments, and if possiblle, I get 'em.
I dont bend over backward, but I do keep an eye open :D

If not, a sling and cleaning kit for each and every firearm I own. Oh ya, Holsters where nessessary ~~LOL!!~~

I need to have the original sling . All others i dont need like bayonets and cleaning kits, they are just extra clutter in my collection which dont find use.

That's pretty neat having sequential serials on those Enfields. Nice rifles too. Do all those bayonets fit the Enfields?
The short spike looking ones on the bottom left are Enfields, the one on the top right looks to be an American late WW2/Cold War design (not really sure on that one though). The ones second and third from the right in the top row are Schimdt Rubin bayonets (possibly Krags, they're almost identical), the third from the left in the top row appears to be an M6 for the US M14. I believe that all of the other ones are Mauser style bayonets from various times and countries.

I will typically get some accessories, generally bayonets, and cleaning kits.

Interesting, the three categories that I thought would get the most hits did. I'm surprised that no one has said that they sell the accessories that come with their rifles. From some of the posts I've seen about people buying Mosins I would have thought that some of that stuff would get dumped.

I am new to this site
and appreciate the information I am reading, and it is Excellent

With Mosins being a $70 rifle WITH accessories, how much could they be worth? Would it really be worth the effort?

I need one of those K31 bayonets like the one with the sheath and frog. That looks very cool.

Kinds of remind me of a dude at the public range. He has this long Turkish mauser and mounted the bayonet. Once ceasefire was called and all rifles at the rack, his rifle shines amongst all others . The RM told him outright , Remove the bayonet ! We dont allow that here. All eyes were looking at the gun owner as if saying, Are you gonna poke someone with that one.hahahaha

Unless he was doing something dangerous, that's just stupid.

Interesting. If you are worried about the bayonet, wouldn't he have to cover you with his muzzle to even touch you with it?
Made me think of something, if you have someone whom you are trying to teach to shoot that is having trouble with muzzle control, perhaps a bayonet would help them. They may not fully understand sweeping someone with a gun, but most people understand not to point knives at others.
