Yup, almost 61 and like my HD shotgun with 00 Buck and Slugs... maybe when I get old I'll drop down to birdshot. Kinda cool that we've got so many younger people interested... that is real encouraging!
Mid April I'll be 54... and I just realized I haven't bought a gun for myself in 10 years! Time to remedy that! I have several on my "short wish list". I think I'll put the list on the dart board and see which one gets the call

At my CCW class last weekend there were quite a few "retirement" age folks. Conducting this poll on an internet message board may be inaccurate, though. As you increase age, the portion of the population in that range that uses the internet decreases as it's still a relatively new thing so you'll have more younger people seeing this.
Conduct this same poll in 40 years. See where us internet savvy youngsters fall then. I imagine the ratio will be the same, there'll just be a significantly larger number of people online. (Or at least whatever the internet evolves into in 40 years)
I am 43, I have been shootin some form of pistol or rifle since I was 15.
Oh yea, lest we forget the pre teens bb-gun an old Crossman a M-1 carbine that had a detachable magazine that held about 200 bb's and you cocked the action by pushing in the barrel. Some times if you didnt pull the barrel completely out it would shoot while extending the barrel the rest of the way.The original SLAM-FIRE!
It's really great to see the younger groups so well represented here! Perhaps there is hope for the future!! The future of our country is in your hands. Get the best education you can, make the military part of that education. Educated warriors will be the salvation of our rights. Never give up!!! I'm in my 60s and still working in law enforcement.

I'm actually very suprised by this poll. When I think of shooters, I think of men in their late 40's and 50's. I belong to a Rifle and Pistol Club and I would guess the average age is over 50, there are very few members in my age group. Most of the people I talk to about guns are much older than me- well except for some of my coworkers that I've taken shooting and converted to pseudo-gun nuts.
I'm in my 30's, I'm buying alot fewer guns than I did in my 20's, but the prices and value are much higher.
Jim L,
interesting thread. I think that I read that article too.
Bear in mind that you might find a disproportionate number of younger people here because they are generally more familiar with computers.
I do have to say that there are quite a few very experienced firearm enthusiests here and willing 'students' to make this a very interesting, educational and diverse forum.
