Propellant Profiles

This is cool. Monster are you going to compile the results?

AA#9= Ball powder
IMR 3031= long extruded
IMR 800X= large Flake

has anybody found a source for the book metioned in the other post on the Firing line "Propellant Profiles" from Wolfe Publishing?

Propellant Profiles from Wolfe Publishing

I found some copys on Amazon but they are all old versions. 1982 was the newist one I seen

I did a search for Wolfe Publishing and was taken to www.riflemagazine.com From there you can Email them
to order the currant Volume of Propellant Profiles.
I have volume 1 great book, but out dated (1982)

Sample from Vol 1
IMR 4831: lenght, .083-inch; diameter, .038;
perforation diameter, .006; web, .016.
Average gravimertric density is .925-gram cubic centermeter.
Relative force, with IMR-4350 as standard at 100 is 99; relative quickness(same standard) is 95.
Imr-4831 is the only Du Pont canister poeder that is slower than Imr-4350.
Flame temperature of IMR-4831 is 2995 K, witch puts it with the coolest of Du Pont propellants.
(From Propellant Profiles Vol 1 Wolfe Pub Prescott AZ.)

I hope this helps.

My .02...

AA#9 - extremely small diameter ball powder. Meters well in the RCBS. I have heard other powder measures have issues though.

AA#7 - small diameter ball. Metering is excellent...

AA#5 - small diameter ball. Again, excellent metering.

Ramshot Enforcer - small ball. Best metering powder I have ever used.

Red Dot - Large flake - Metering sucks - check every other charge.

YMMV,

Mike

More!
We're still missing a few Alliant powders, most IMR powders and Winchester powders, and we're not sure about Universal and International.

All IMR rifle powders are extruded. I have no experience with their pistol powders such as PB, 700 and 800-X and the slow burners.
All Alliant pistol powders are flakes and their rifle powders are all extruded.
Universal is small flake, not sure about International
Aren't all Winchester powders, ball powders? I know that 748, 296 and 231 are, but I haven't used any others.
