What happend if you found yourself in the UK,and a situation-like the ones that were previously mentioned-actually happend?

Silly, you grab a big boat and make for Sealand. Alternately, you could head for Switzerland, but you would probably pass the platform on the way.

Which one should one choose for survival?

Hi all

I've lurked THR for a while now, and this thread is what finally made me register.

One of my hobbies is preparing for the zombie apocalypse. No, I don't believe in zombies, I just have a weird sense of humor.

Classic shamblers like in Shaun of the Dead are very dangerous, as long as you keep alert and don't get surrounded. Since I would be a tourist I probably wouldn't be allowed to carry firearms anyway, although if the laws were more relaxed it would increase my chances of finding one. I might be allowed to carry a knife, which is a useful tool, but not particularly effective against the living dead. So as a tourist I'd probably have a little emergency food and a water bottle. My plan would be to get away from the city as fast as possible. I would pick up any food, water, or weapons I found along the way, but I would not spend time looking for those things. If I make it out of the city, I would try to find a boat that could get me out of Britain and somewhere that is (hopefully) safe from the infected.

The infected from 28 Days Later were not really zombies, exactly. Their speed makes them much more dangerous, but they can be killed like a normal human. Now the zombies from Dawn '04, they are scary. They are fast and still require destruction of the brain. Anyway, my plan wouldn't change, I just would be a lot less likely to survive.

www.zombiehunters.org is a great site for discussion of zombie survival. It is really a disaster preparedness/survival website, the zombie theme is just used to keep things interesting.

"Will this do?"

Hahaha, nope! As it's the blunt Paul Chen "Practical" Longsword. I've got one myself, I use it for martial arts practise.

Here's what I would suggest:

Some sort of modern sabre from Cold Steel, perhaps a 1796 pattern. You don't want to ruin an antique!

A custom sword from Mark Vickers would also do, he's a fine smith:

Or if you want to go a bit cheaper, check out Angus Trim's swords:

Hmm...perhaps even a black powder revolver, from a site which'd be willing to send it to the UK:

'Reign of Fire' is another good example of UK survival at it's best.

I would need a few more firearms, like a Ruger old army with a nitro convertion, a couple more 12g shotties(pump & auto), .44 lever action carbine, .44 Long barrelled revolver, another .22lr, .223 straight pull AR15, a .308 barrel for my competitor (already got one in .44mag:cool: )
all in addition to my current stock:)

All of the above are on 'actual' my wish list and some I already have the veriations for:neener: .

I really want a cold steel boar spear and a nice couple of swords along with a few more 'big' knives as most of my current collection are under 12".

But for zombies..... a new bull-bar on my 4x4, home made flamethrower:evil: , and I may even be tempted to finally get that cannon I've been promising myself
http://www.ardesa.com/avancarga/eng/pop_ironside.htm

I can't think of anything at the moment (weapon wise, that is) but any tips are welcome.

Dan

Hmmm....

If I wake up in the (post everything-ban) UK, I'm probably already a zombie:banghead:

If, for some reason, I've yet to recieve the bite/disease/etc. and awake in the Old Country, I'm sure there's a weapons depot SOMEWHERE...and when I'm done they'll be naming Video Games after me:evil:

Which one should one choose for survival?

Why choose?? take them all!!!

They all have their own merits, the top one for it's survival kit, the second for it's basic ruggedness, the third as a back-up and the CS kurkri for it's ability to take a man's head clean off.

But if I had to pick one it would be the CS.

There is something odd about that film, because it featured L1A1 SLRs,stens,mp40s,Thompson smgs and of course Van Zan's Remington R Riot shotgun-but no SA80S-considering the fact that the first part of the film was set, just before the start of the apocalypse-in 2002.

L1A1s have been banned, for cillivian use and ownership, since 1989,and I know that the UK,doesn't have many left in any of the armed forces arsenal-so why is it that there are many in Reign of Fire????Reason why,not so many left,I think:because they sold them off to Africa.(This includes those taken from private ownership in 1988 and 1989-after the SLR ban.)

Quinns rifle looks like a Remington 700 or Winchester Model 70-that he could have taken, from any gun shop-on his travels.

Of course there is always the Birmingham Proof House and the Enfield Pattern-Room,which holds one of the best collections of firearms in the world. There might have been be live-firing models, still in there.

Has anyone in the UK seen the inside of those two places-they are huge? Also guess what, some of the once-legal handguns(That one belonged to civillian owners.) are in there-for research and development puposes-talk about theft or what?

The GCN members, would rather be chased and finally eaten by zombies-rather than fight with knives, swords and guns."No,that should be banned."

I'd locate a munitions dump for the highway department (ministry of asphalt, whatever the limeys call it) and grab some dynamite. Then, ala the Dukes of Hazzard, I'd strap them to my arrows and blow Zombies up with them.

Sterling, I would choose the British Army Field Knife from your selections, if you only could have one. It probably will last the longest. The top *looks* like an el-cheapo Asian made hollow handle survival knife. You can never really be sure of the metalurgical composition of those, and the hollow handle can easily break. The bottom looks like a Pakistani or Chinese Frost Knife. These usually have decent blades and handles, however, if you could only have one, you don't want decent- you want the BEST.

It was probably down to the film armouror having bad experiences with them, but even then, I'd probably look for the nearest fireworks factory to camp down in rather than be armed with an SA80:confused:
The lastest refits have had electronic triggers fitted, so now, not only do you have an unreliable rifle, but you now have to worry about the batteries running out:eek:

The reason why the authorities are so particular about barrel lengths, was to do with, the fact that they could be easily concealed by a nutcase-who intended to use them to kill with.

Crimminals in England don't know what a hacksaw is?

L1A1s have been banned, for cillivian use and ownership, since 1989

Fictionally, its because the smart folks (the ones that managed to live that long in the movie) were smart enough to ignore that law and kept them. Realisically, its what the movie armorer had (and they look plenty cool enough for a movie). It may have even been a concious stylistic decision by the filmmaker since it looks more rugged and fitting to the atmosphere of the movie and sets--unlike the IW, which looks more "space stationy".

Best defense in England would be camoflauge. Dress yourself as an antigun politician and, since the zombies feed on brains, you'd be ignored.

1. Find yourself a Liberal - not too hard I would imagine.
2. Go with said liberal to the closest Undead
3. While Liberal is talking and trying to 'understand' what makes the undead the way they are, and is getting eaten at the same time,
4. Run the other way
5. Repeat 1 thru 4 above as many times as necessary.

Wrong, my friend. It is not a Paul Chen sword, it is a battle ready reproduction of the sword of Emperor Albrecht II of Austria. I assure you that it is carbon steel, and rather sharp. http://www.swords.co.uk/english_and_european_medieval.htm

Replicated from a sword thought to be that of Albrecht II of Austria , the Hand-and-a-Half Sword (SH-2034) represents the pinnacle of beauty and balance in medieval swords. Classically simple in design with a flattened diamond-section blade and cruciform hilt, the original dates from the early part of the 15th century. The “Lion Rampant” emblem of the Habsburg dynasty is engraved in the pommel, while the Passau “Running Wolf” guild mark and a marigold maker’s mark appear on the blade fuller. Both the grip and the scabbard are leather covered over a cord wrap.

No possible way to defend your self if you watch the "historical Documents" on combating zombies severe trauma must be applied to the head.

Even if you were only fighting 2 zombies at one time one of them would bite you before you finished chopping their heads off.:neener:

Eh, as much as I like the 1796, the saber is really only useful if you're on horseback, or are about seven feet tall. It's a hack and slash blade and damn heavy. The 1796 Heavy Cav is okay, especially with the spear point mod, but still heavy. I would gravitate more towards the 1803 Light Infantry saber - pretty good balance, and the one I have is still razor sharp. Ask me how I know!

At the risk of sounding like a mall ninja, I think if you're bringing a blade to a zombie party, it should be a katana.
