Your thoughts on the Kabar Impact?

I am interested in your thoughts (pros/cons) of the KaBar Impact Series knife. It looks well made with a good design. Oddly I never read anyone recommending it. At $95, it rivals the designs by Busse and Strider, at a much cheaper price. What are your thoughts?

It can be viewed at:
http://store.knifecenter.com/pgi-ProductSpec?KA1461

- Slab handled knives with wide tangs are extremely durable.
- Simple construction - a single piece of steel acting as blade and tang with two handle slabs... streamlined... strength.
- Laser cut D-2 Tool steel blade hardened to HRC 59-60
- Spear Point Blade Length 4-1/2 inch; - Overall 9-1/2 inch
- Epoxy powder coated
- Contoured Micarta Handles
- Ballistic Nylon KaBar Eagle Sheaths with molded blade insert and velcro lined belt loop w/snap closure

Assuming the heat treat is good it should be an excellent knife for the purposes you intend.

You may want to ask the question at bladeforums and knifeforums for more answers from more folks that have them.

No offense, but in some ways it looks like they copied designs by TOPS and Strider. :D

Looks like a good knife, though, and I trust Ka-Bar. Wouldn't be surprised that you don't hear much about it. They're not as flashy as some companies out there, so they get less press, but they make good stuff.

Make mine a simple K-Bar.

Having a fancy knife is one thing. Knowing how to use it is more important. In your spare time, practice making shelters with it. Practice striking flint against it to make fire. If you're really knuts, tie it to a pole & practice spear chucking. ;)

The humble Swiss Army knife is pretty good too as a secondary knife. The saw is great for branches and the tweasers for pulling out slivers.

Survival Knife 101: Never use your knife as a spear, us it to make you spears. Why throw away your best tool?
;)

That goes for everything. Your knife does not have to be everything you need, you just need to be able to obtain everything you need with your knife.
