wow, how did this thread go from poor journalism/ non-story trumped up more than it needed to be to cops are the key to tyrants taking over the world?

They thought the guy could "hang dozens of magazines on the vest and in their pockets." 36 M1A magazines filled with 720 .308 rounds? He wouldn't even be able to move!

The story said------ They found a Springfield MIA SOCOM .308 with 36 magazines and a scope that could grant a decent shooter the ability to hit someone from 350 to 400 yards away.

“They would have stopping power out past that, but the accuracy wouldn’t be there,” Ford added.

I say they underestimate that gun with a decent shooter.

:neener:

Is one man alone ever better equipped than a trained team because he has a different rifle? I'm going to say "no."

The SOCOM is only good out to 400yrds? Wow, what a waste of a rifle then. If anybody doesn't want theirs after hearing this let me know, and I will be happy to give you pennies on the dollar for your M1A. Also, what's the range if you don't have a scope on it, 100yrds?

city employees

My air conditioner went out and the high was predicted to be 114. The AC repair people were snowed under and couldn't get here for two days. After a while the water guy shows up and says the mayor sent him to check on us. I told him we were OK. Well I guess I am sort of screwed up looking, because after a while a cop shows up with a paramedic to make sure I am OK which I was. The AC is fixed now and I am not in the mood to listen to anybody criticize city employees.

The suspect was certainly well armed. Consideration must be given to the risk involved in any situation. With that rifle, a well trained man hell bent to do damage could have been quite a problem .

I agree that a risk assesment should be conducted when you know weapons may be involved, but to equate gun ownership with Norway or Fort Hood is just plain wrong.

A well trained man hell bent to do some damage could indeed be a problem, whether is is with a bolt action rifle or semi auto. The weapon system is not the deciding factor in lethality. This only made headlines because it was a semi and we had a Major who didn't know how to hold his tongue. I will be he does a better job the next election year for the Sheriff.
