PITTSBURGH -- A Pittsburgh police officer was shot Wednesday night near the intersection of Kelly and Hale streets in Homewood, Channel 4 Action News reporter Jon Greiner reported.
Police said the officer, identified as Sgt. Campbell, was shot in the hand during a shootout with an unidentified suspect at about 9 p.m.
The shooting started after the suspect was pulled over in a car that was believed to be stolen. Police said he jumped out and began to run, firing shots as he went, and Campbell and another officer fired back.
The unidentified suspect was shot about five times. He was reportedly in critical condition Thursday morning.
