suspenders

Lordy, I'm glad to see all the responses to this. At 67, I no longer care about the pretty girls looking my way; I just want my britches to stay up and be comfortable, and support my firearm. I'm of the opinion that suspenders are indispensable for manly wear.

Suspenders under a t-shirt works great. Suspenders over the t-shirt and under a khaki vest or open-front shirt works great. No reason not to carry your favorite handgun just because it's summer. It seems the gun-carrying nation has become obsessed with light and short--the easiest gun to carry is the way to go. I don't agree with that at all. I carry because I might need to shoot. If I need to shoot, I want to draw from concealment the gun that I KNOW I can hit with and that has sufficient energy. Sub nines and .380's ain't it. You decrease too much barrel length from your favorite caliber and it becomes less of a gun, and very possibly insufficient.

The mindset of carrying what is convenient is better than what you would really like to have if you need it, is ridiculous. Any gun better than no gun is ridiculous when you live in a society that allows you to carry whatever. If you don't take your protection seriously, neither will your assailant.

If you might need 25 yard protection, carry a gun that will do that, held up by suspenders. Compromise is stupid. If you think you need a gun, carry the one you would want if you were faced with the worst scenario you can imagine. Oh, how sorry you would be if that scenario arises and you have a .380 or other belly gun.

The bigger guns are fun to shoot at the range, and most c/c people use them for only that. Find a way to secure what will work to your person and have it within reach all the time.

I sort of got off the topic.

I wear both at times. They dont do exactly the same thing. If you carry much junk in your pockets, it takes a pretty tight belt to keep your pants up with much movement. Belts give you a place to hang stuff like holsters, mag carriers, knife cases etc, and help keep your shirt tucked in. Suspenders help take the weight better than belts can.

I had so many problems with clip ons I gave them up ages ago. It takes all of 20 minutes to sew on buttons. When the pants are worn out I cut them off and sew onto new pants.

With my body shape, I've had problems with my pants sagging for years, and hanging a gun off my belt just makes that worse. I've started using Perry suspenders, which clip onto your belt, and they work great at reducing or preventing sag. I am still vain enough that I usually wear them under my cover garment, though (tee shirt then suspenders then overshirt/sweatshirt/sweater)

Just picked up my first pair last weekend. A set of Dickies that clip to my belt, for under $10. Have to get them adjusted right, as they tend to slip off the back when using the bathroom.

I ride a H.D. (have for 60 yrs) and wear a nice set of MoCo suspenders. Have for many years. They work great and add a bit of coolness to the equasion.

After about 64 years I got tired of constantly hitching up my pants and began using Perry Dickie label suspenders from Wallymart. These have the plastic clips and fit my needs perfectly.

Then I got my CHL.

I prefer belt and suspenders as the no belt option makes pants sit funny, the belt keeps a comfortable shape and carries my 4" K-frame in a tuckable IWB. I'm not going for high noon quick draws and untucked is just not my lifestyle.

Hickman are the best you will find. Heavy duty, American made, and the biggie: choice of unique fail proof fastening methods.

short barrel,

Glances from young ladies welcome, but I've always been a "what you see is what you get" type. Young for me is anything under 65 anyway.

OilyPablo,

Remind your wife that suspenders are a tuxedo accessory. How much more suave than that can you get? Better than butt crack in any event. :uhoh:

Perry Suspenders have saved me from having ankle warmers in public several times. I've used the executive black for years, and they are just now starting to lose some elasticity. I can let my belt out and still keep it up with a 1911, one mag, a flashlight, wallet, keys, pocket change, and cell phone. As for a T-shirt in summer, I will usually wear a tighter T-shirt underneath the suspenders and then a black looser T-shirt to cover the gun. I STRONGLY recommend a real gun belt with Perry suspenders.

Perry Suspenders and CCW

After reading online here on THR, I ordered a pair(?) of Perry Suspenders via the web from WalMart for about $ 13, delivered to my door.

Man, that's probably the best value I've gotten from $ 13 in a long time. This is the answer to a lot of my CCW problems. I can slip them on by myself, after I have put my pants and belt on.

Thanks THR partners !:)

Complete Set of Perry Suspenders

I now have three (tan, black, & red) sets of Perry Suspenders.
Now I can wear almost any color outfit, and my Perry's will match it.
You might say I'm a Sharp Dressed (CCW) Man.:D

Well, I have the tan and black, but don't know that I am ready for red.

At a match last weekend a gentleman was wearing K&W Tactical suspenders from the Blumenthal Uniform shop. Major duty wear including attachment hardware and should pads. I think I need those for lugging the gear around at matches.

I'm a fan of the Perry suspenders. I like the fact they hold onto your belt rather than pants. My only complaint is they are elastic. I'd pay a bit more to have something that doesn't stretch.

The timing for this post is very funny to me,,,

The timing for this post is very funny to me,,,
I wear a belt with my suspenders,,,
Usually under a Hawaiian shirt.

Last week I was wearing a tuck-in shirt,,,
With my suspenders on the outside,,,
And of course my belt.

One of the female professors noticed.

She looked at me and said,,,
"You know what they say about men who wear a belt and suspenders."

I didn't recognize the joke she was attempting to allude to,,,
I just gave her my best blank-face look and asked,,,
"But, where would I hang my handgun?"

Because of this thread, I picked up a pair of perry's- very impressed. Thanks!

Another Perry's booster. I have two sets, one black, one brown and they 'merge' with most everything.

I agree about the straps stretching. Sooner or later, I will buy some garment leather of the correct weight and make straps to replace the elastic ones. It's just another project for me to procrastinate.

As far as the 'belt and suspenders' objection. My suspenders hold up my belt. My belt holds up my trousers and appropriate hardware. Besides, all the women who might find me attractive are too old anyway.

Suspenders = Gun Supporters

Right on, on all of that, but.....we must concentrate on the fact, that they hold up your GUNS (for the sake of the thread), while holding up your pants!!! Both are important!:)
