Hey all,

I am a large guy (6'1" and 260lbs) and I do carry a spare tire. I am looking for a good holster for the 642 that I bought recently. The 642 will primarily be used for summer carry here in San Antonio, and I am open to just about any beltline carry method.

For those of you that carry in summer clothing, do you carry IWB or OWB??

I carry my 638 in appendix position. simple, short nylon clip holster. EXCELLENT carry position.
Dunlaps helps conceal real well
Not bulky vs common pocket stowage
very quick draw
can reach easily when seated in car or on motorcycle
holds tight in all types of motion
virtually no printing

I carry a j-frame all the time, either in a pocket or OWB holster (no IWB, too much of me in there already). I usually use a J.W. O'Rourke pancake but recently I got a Blackhawk Serpa and I've been using it quite a bit but it does stick out. It's best under a jacket. It's a lot cooler here in Maine than San Antonio so I can wear some kind of an outer garment even in the summer (big fan of Hawaiin style shirts without the flower prints). Fist Holsters makes a nice looking kydex high ride pancake that I've been wanting to try. It looks like it would hold the gun in very tightly as it won't flex like a leather holster. My O'rourke has quite a few years of carry on it and it is getting soft, I may replace it with the Fist kydex.

BTW, thanks for your service. I was a USAF SP waaaayyy back in the early 80's and my son is currently serving as a TACP assigned to the 20th ASOS at Ft. Drum, NY. He's taking his first trip to the sandbox at the end of next month.
Stay safe.

WC145 - Thanks for the holster recommendations. Also, give my best wishes and thanks to your son. That is truly one of the most challenging specialties in the AF.

You end up living with the Army most of the time and trust me when I say that there is a definite difference in how we treat our people.

I've got one of the OWB clip-on nylon type and I hate it. Too soft, hard to holster w/out fumbling. Have a pocket holster also and its okay if pant pocket is big enough, which is seldom. Got a custom leather OWB high ride ordered, should be here in a couple of weeks.

I think it difficult to carry a revolver IWB. I know some do, I'd have to get bigger pants.

I'm finding out its true what they told me when I started this CCW quest _you'll have a shoe box full by the time you find the right one(s). I'm about your size (smaller) but let me know if you find a good one.

I use a Desantis Nemesis pocket holster for my 442 for daily carry, and it could not be more comfortable, and I am in the heat and humidity of South Florida.

I just purchased a Milt Sparks PMK for a Detective Special, and it is so nice, comfortable and well made, that I have one on order for my S&W. Perfect when I don't wish to pocket carry.

I'm the same build. I get the Wrangler "HERO" carpenter jeans and the 642 fits perfectly in the right front key pocket. Then you just wear a simple t shirt to cover it.
