SW 696 .44spl value?

got a SW696 no dash, 3" stainless, hammer mounted firing pin,black rubber grips, bought brand new , fired about 15 rounds, box and original paperwork.
Nice gun, shoots fine, sat in my nightstand for years.
I need cash and ran it by the local scheels about a year ago but got a real low ball offer and decided to keep the gun.

what would be the value of this gun ? and the best way to sell it ?
I know just selling outright to the gunshop I'm not getting my best price but I have never bought or sold anything on the internet and am not sure how that works, got cold feet when it comes to internet transactions. If I have an internet buyer , and ship my gun to him through a local FFL dealer and pay his FFL /shipping/handleing fee , when and how do I get my money.

I've sold one firearm via the 'net. The buyer sends you a copy of the FFL, and a money order. You ship to the address of the FFL, and the FFL handles the paperwork. Keep the copy of the FFL, in case a question arises. You should put a photocopy of your driver's license in the box with the gun.

On to the funner stuff. I've seen 696's just north and south of $750 within the last 6 mo or so. I don't know if the current raging fever in gun sales is spiking revolver prices too.

thanks for the response Hutch, that sounds like a fairly painless process. 750 is in fact the ball park i was thinking , but maybe thats alittle high for a quick sale. anyway I appreciate the info.

Not hard to sign up and sell it on Gunbroker. Rules for legal transfer and shipping are posted on the site. Cost to sell is very reasonable , and you get the benifit of auction selling to the highest bidder.

1) Gunbroker and others (AA, etc.) have lists of FFL near you. They will post (usually) their fees. Else call. Usually it is like a $20 transfer feel, and a $15 USPS flat-rate box + insurance fee. So you should be able to offer $35/$40 shipping. Check it out before you make your post. Call a few FFL's, some are cheap, some fair, some outrageous.

2) Take lots of pics of the gun for the ad. Post many angles and large pictures. Tell every flaw, and the whole history.

You can set a reserve of $750 and the ad will run and re-list automatically until that is hit/surpassed. I would estimate $750 to $850 is a good price to expect. Revolver prices are a bit soft right now as people are buying hi-cap autos and military-style rifles now, and I have seen the prices soften up a bit in the last nine months. But for a rare bird in good shape like that, $750 should still be no problem.

Note: Recent increases have got UPS and FedEx in the $80 ball park for shipping. An FFL can ship a handgun via the USPS, but a private citizen can not. I can pay my FFL $20 to ship it, plus the $20 the USPS charges, and I come out way ahead.
