Anyone have any idea as to the value of an original S&W model 586? it is of the 6 inch variety, blued steel. Seldom fired and meticulously kept. Have original box as well as the paperwork. it is a first series. No dash after the 586. Not interested in selling it as it was left to me by my father. I'm just wondering if its valuable or just a really beautiful shooter.

Could go as much as $800 in the condition you describe.

S&W just re-released the 586 (with the lock).
Sells brand new for just under $700

I would estimate $750 maximum if it's in really, really good condition. Even one strike (muzzle wear, idiot mark, non-original grips etc) will knock a $100 off.
