SW 9mm Long slide Police trade ins

Seems unusual to me.
Probably just one department got them, realized a little longer barrel was less comfortable in a patrol car, and is ditching them.

I think the 9L is a good basis for an IDPA SSP. Get the milled Pro sear or some Apex parts, or have a real gunsmith hone it out, put on fibre optic sights, and you would be all set. Hmm, would it be that much better than my Burwell standard length?

I agree with Jim.

The instant I saw the photo - I went straight to "project gun".

I see a lot of police departments issuing mid size or compact pistols like the Glock 19. The rationale is its big enough to shoot well but not too big for off duty. Therefore one gun fits all needs.

I guess a 5" bbl(?) is too much to ask from a new pistol, never dawned on me until now. That pistol looks huge... Meanwhile, a cammander 1911 looks small.

That is a huge gun. I don't think the advantages of a longer slide would outweigh the extra size for me.

I don't think it is terribly odd. On the various forums I'm on, there are quite a few Law Enforcement guys using Glock G34 and G35 guns.

I don't think the advantages of a longer slide would outweigh the extra size for me.

Got me some more time being able to hit with iron sights, but now that those days are basically over I put the red dot on my 4" gun.

That extra inch the front sight was out there made a disproportionate difference as my near point of vision marched further out with age :(

I shoot an M&P 9L in competition. Its a really great gun for that. Truthfully if you're open carrying I don't see the extra inch of barrel doing anything but helping. A little less concealable sure but then again I wouldn't even want to carry the 4" M&P concealed (I'd rather go to a single-stack, or at least a "compact" model like the M&P 9C). In that regard I just don't see why the 5" "duty" sized guns aren't more popular.
