I am debating between the two for my carry gun. I have not shot either but I have held both. For those of you who have experience with both wepons, do you recommend one over the other? Thanks.

Man, U forgot the best choice - Walther P99 compact A/S - I had a Glock 26 for 8 years. Good gun, but I don't like Glock triggers. The P99 with the A/S trigger is much better. I sold my Glock 2 years ago and do not regret it :)

It is the same size as the Glock 26

I'm not a fan of the P99 as a defensive pistol, as I believe we discussed elsewhere, unless it is the model without the decocker button, or unless you can hit the decocker button with your strongside thumb. Others will disagree.

The Glock/M&P thing comes down to ergonomics and reliability. The Glock has a proven track record in reliability. The M&P does not- yet. The M&P has more flexible ergonomics (multiple backstraps) and a trigger that most people would consider better.

It really comes down to which gun works better for you. Me? I'd choose the M&P. But if I was forced to choose the Glock, I would not feel inadequately armed.

Well, never had the pleasure of firing a SW MP9 Compact, but in years past I had two Glock 26's..

My Walther P99c/AS is IMO light years an improvement over the Glock 26. The grip ergonomics are fantastic, and the "AS" trigger/striker is much an improvement (for me) over the Glock 26. The Walthers (I have the compact and the full size) are both more accurate right out of the box than either of my Glock 26's were.

Glock 26's are excellent pistols, but.. If Walther spent the money and had the advertisinig savvy of Glock every LEO in America (imo) would be carrying Walther's, not Glocks.. But, that's not the case, so good for Glock..

Someone mentioned a dislike for the decocker on the Walther P99, but it's actually one of the features I like. And, I'm a lefty.... Guess that's why they sell Fords AND Chevy's...;)

Try and hold and fire any pistol you are comtemplating purchase of for self defense before you buy...

Best Wishes,

I like the Walthers, but I don't own one...OTOH, I do have a G19 and I have older pre-ban mags that would work w/ the G26 -- so, I'd go w/ the 26 for the flexability.
For you, I'd get the one that you shoot better or can get the better deal on ;)

You can’t go wrong with either, the Glock 26 is slightly smaller and more concealable and at this point more reliable. The M&P 9c has better ergonomics than a stock Glock and slightly less perceived recoil it also has a very nice trigger once it has had a few minor modifications to smooth it out and eliminate the over travel and shorten the reset. It actually uses a sear so you can fine tune the trigger more so than the Glock.
