I am new to loading military brass. I am about to purchase a primer pocket swager.
Either a Dillon or an RCBS. Can some of you give me your opinions of the pros and cons on each of these. RCBS make one like the dillon and they also make one that mounts in the press.

I have a Dillon 600 Super Swage. I Love it! It's very easy to use, and only took 5min to set up correctly, and find that sweet spot. I have only had mine for a month, and processed about 3k cases thus far. As of now I can't think of any cons. I have never used either of the RCBS swagers.

I've got both RCBS versions. I much prefer the bench mounted one. Works well.

Good luck. Once used the swagers are something no one wants to sell off. I use the Dillon and haven't found anything that comes even close to it for speed and ease of use. Sometimes I see a used Dillon on fleabay but they usually go for what a new one sells for, if not more.

I have the RCBS die style. The original or older version. I can not say I care for it. Seems labor intensive to me and does not get rid of the crimp completely.

Maybe I am doing something wrong or my wimpy LEE C press is not strong enough? I do not think I can use it on the Turret?

If you have the money and can find one, get the bench version of either.

I would rather ream them out with a attachment on the drill.

The Dillon has a rod which protrudes into the case and holds the case head against the swage rod. If the device you are looking at purports to hold the case head against the swage rod by using the extractor groove, don't buy that one. I bought a C&H Tool and Die version of that swage kit, and the lack of the rod from within the case caused several torn rims.

The RCBS unit has the rod like the Dillon.

I run a Dillion SS600 on a piece of 2x4 wood. That permits me to swage brass while watching videos. Since swaging is mostly by feel and doesn't involve volatile components, it work out well.

Three points that will help.

1. You are moving brass where it doesn't want to go, just like re-sizing cases.
So a light spritz of sizing lube in the primer pockets will go a long way to easing the operation.

2. If you can't get complete crimp removal?
Grind a couple three thou off the end of the swaging punch so it can enter the primer pocket just a frog-hair more.

3. Sort all brass be head-stamp before swaging.
The inside support rod has to be adjusted to the case head thickness of each brand of brass, or it will not allow full swaging on different thickness case heads.

Dillon is pretty well caught up. I got mine in about 2 weeks.

Yea I think Dillon is getting caught up. A shooting buddy of mine just ordered a SS600, cal Conv kit, Deluxe quick change kit on Sunday 2 weeks ago, and received his shippment a week later.

Someone mentioned CH4D. I have one of their press mounted swagers and it works well if you ever get it adjusted right. But, I found that adjusting it right was just a hair more difficult than balancing a watermelon on a marble.
