Hey Highroad Crew,

I am in the market for a new Primer Pocket Swager.

Please advise me on some cool swagers (Super 1050 is out). I am using a RCBS swage combo kit and it's okay but I am just not digging it too much. I used to have a Dillon but my brother took care of that luxery:banghead:

Aside from Dillon's swager, am I over looking anything cool? Any old school techniques?

All input from all members greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

I'm assuming you're talking about swaging primer pockets rather than bullets?

I used the RCBS kit for a while and then started reaming them instead. I've used the Lee chamfer tool for this, but currently use a Hornady reamer chucked in a slow turning drill.

I originally started with an RCBS small primer pocket swager kit, but last year I bought the Dillon Super Swager. I originally thought the Dillon swager was too much money but after using it I am glad I bought it and highly recommend it.

Used to have an RCBS swager but got tired of wrestling the brass off the damn thing finally bought the Super Swager and have had no complaints since. To quote an old tv ad "try it you'll like it"

buy the swaging die sold by ch tool, $21. It threads in to my lee turrent, the swager fits in the ram and the shell holder fits on top of the die for the case. comes with swagers for small and large primer pockets.

Cheap countersink bit from the store

After a lifetime of swaging, I bought a carbide countersink bit at Harbor Freight Fools for $3. Chuck it in a cordless drill. It takes 3 seconds to ream a crimp. You're done. Taa-Daa!!!

AND... you can spot a reamed crimp from a mile away when you pick up used brass, so you don't have to wonder if it has already been swaged it or not. Many commercial reloaders ream for that very reason.

Dillon unit all the way. I just processed 2K pieces of LC .223, and if I had to do that any other way, I'da given up. I was lucky enough to be able to borrow one, but after using it, I'd buy it if I had the same volume to do. Excellent tool.
