Hey guys, I have never had to swag brass before. I only loaded for my hunting rifles and revolvers. Anyway, I am loading 223/5.56 brass. I have a pile of brass that needs swaging. I have a RCBS bench top swager. I read the setup instructions and all that. How do I tell if I have effectively removed the crimp? How much force does it take to do this process? Any help or videos would be great.

Thanks

When you can seat new primers in them without crushing them.

It is very difficult to explain it in words.

But thats the bottom line.

Yeah, I figured that. LOL. I just don't want to over or under do it. I search for the videos.

Just swage a couple of primer pockets and then seat a couple of primers. That will take less time than watching videos and tell you whether or not you've gotten it right.

That's the way we used to do it before there was an internet.........

Hope this helps.

The only advice I can offer is to sort your brass by headstamp and setup the swaging tool accordingly. I have found that one setup does not work with all the different types of brass.

Also, I made a guage with a piece of metal rod. The rod was slighly larger than a primer pocket so I chucked it in a drill and ground it down until it fit a commercial piece of brass. One thing I discovered is that primer pockets have a slight taper, they get more narrow toward the bottom.
