Swiss K-31....how urgent should I be to order?

I am wanting to order a Swiss K-31 in the near future. I have looked at several of the wholesalers (AIM, SOG, Samco, Century, etc.) for one of these, but the best condition that I can find one in is good to very good condition. I know that Samco had some in stock that were in excellent condition, but they are presently sold out. I think that I actually want to find one in excellent condition, if at all possible. This brings me up to my question. Does anyone know if any of the milsup wholesalers are going to be getting any new shipments of K-31's in the near future? Several of the websites mention that they aren't probably going to be getting anymore in, but if I recall, it seems like they have said this for just about every gun that they've had in stock at one time or another. Does anyone know if this is truly the case now, or is it simply a ploy to get you to buy what they have in stock at the moment so that they can replenish their supply with a new shipment? Does anyone know if there are any new shipments of K-31's in Switzerland to be had? Thanks for any comments back in this matter.
 
Excellent condition is what you make it. All of the stocks on the K31 look like they were used for baseball. The marching of the Swiss included kicking the buttstock, so none are perfect.

Mine was rated "very good" and I couldn't be happier with it.

I really think if someone called a K31 "excellent" condition that would be dishonest frankly, that implies an unissued or undamaged stock to me.
 
If you want it, order it now in the best condition you can find. I've seen the rumors run around about rifles, etc., that they're running out, and then suddenly see them back again, common as dirt. I believe that decent K31s are going to disappear from inventories soon, between the UN, the change in US politics, and the changes in Swiss attitudes towards firearms.
 
They're certainly are going up in price. I got mine from AIM probably about 18 months ago for like $99 and now they're $199 at AIM.

I wouldn't put it off much longer if you can. I just bought mine at a gun show a month ago for $240 and I couldn't be happier with it. They'll likely be $300 or so soon. Anyway...just get one, for pete's sake. They're some of the finest milsurp guns to be had. You won't be disappointed.

I called Samco on Friday and the woman who answered the phone said to try back in two weeks. I don't know if this is her standard reply if they don't have something in stock or if they actually might be getting some more in stock. As I said earlier, everybody else that has any K-31's in stock are listing them as being in good to very good condition. I simply don't know if I have missed the boat yet as far as getting one in excellent condition or not.

That's because we're nearing the bottom o' the barrel on K31 imports. Five years ago they were minty fresh with excellent wood, but almost nobody was interested in them because they had a weird action and hard-to-find ammo. Now ammo is much easier to find and word has gotten round about their amazing accuracy.

A few years ago was the best time to buy when mint ones went for under a C note, but now is still a good time to buy. I can see them fetching four or five hundred dollars in a few years, maybe more. Their inherent replacement value at modern production costs is probably close to a grand.

Don't limit yourself to the wholesalers. You can find good deals on these and Finn Mosins on Gunbroker. I just nabbed another Tikka M91 for under two bills.
 
I was not especially thrilled with my FGS K31, I thought there was too much rust on them.

The K31's most people are selling are imported by samco, including AIM's. Make of that what you will.

Also if you go back and browse the swiss rifle forums you'll find people saying they are almost sold out and you better buy quickly.

The sky is always falling if you're a c&r person (well unless maybe its a MN :D) but I don't know that I'm convinced this your last chance at one yet...
 
I was thinking more about ammo cost. I bought my 500 round case of GP11 for 150, but now they are $250 that I have seen. I am collecting some aftermarket ammo as I go so at least I will have some that is easily reloadable.

They are great rifles though. The iron sights are very precise and easy to use accurately. I have a clamp on scope mount that is very solid. I don't who still sells those mounts.
 
I bought one because I read about how affordable and accurate they were, but the articles I read were already a couple of years old. By the time I got one, they were up to their current price of about $200.

I was lucky to find one at my local gun shop for about $200 after taxes, so I saved myself some money on shipping by buying it in person.
 
AIM K31s.

Five of us bought K31 hand picked from Aim. They said they had 170 left- last month. All walnut stocked. I think they may have saved some of the best for last as these were really good. Delivered they cost 230.00 each. Everyone very happy.

I think the clock is running on K31s. I shot a doe with one of mine and won the TSRA Vintage Military Rifle Championship two years in a row.
 
I have 4, I want one or two more. I got my last one this past summer for $159 with a 60rd pack of ammo. I got all of them in the $130 range. Buy cheap, stack deep. Got brass from Graf's, saving all my GP11 brass too. One of these days I will be selling left hand bolt adaptors, magazines, and re-loading GP-11 brass. I just need to get the time in a shop to work on the stuff.

No, it's not an addiction...
