Swiss K31 value

I picked up a swiss K31 a couple years ago. I really enjoy the rifle but do to the high cost of surplus ammo for it and the difficulty in finding ammo in the first place I've decided to let it go at the next gun show in trade for something else that i would use more often. Now a couple years ago I payed $150 for it. I would say that it is in average condition for a military surplus rifle, the bore is bright and shiny, no rust or pitting whatsoever, but the stock is a little on the rough side. Is it realistic to get back what i payed for it? Or am i looking at a slightly less/more value for my K31?

Most average ones I've seen for sale in the last couple of months have been in the $250 range. I have not noticed that these guns have sold like they did at $150. I'd think you could sell it here for about $200, give or take $25.

The ammo is a little pricey at ~ 0.50 per round, but it is readily available. At least the GP11 is.

You can always reload for it, but there are some gotchas.

You should certainly be able to get back what you paid, but you might really want to think about it.

They are not going of be more of them.

Ammo makers are adding the Swiss to their catalogs and though it is on the expensive side they are one of the nicest milsurp type rifles out there.

Think long and hard about it. All ammo prices are going up, any bargains today probably won't be in a year or 2. It's all going to end up where the expensive part of shooting is the ammo.

several of the surplus dealers are showing these rifles in "very good" condition for approx $200, available thru a C& R license, plus shipping. i saw one over the weekend at $149 , but the SGN ad did not mention condition; just that the seller's stock was hand selected. i have read respeatedly that there rifles are very accurate and well made.

I really don't mind that ammo is expensive, GP-11 is fantastic stuff and really what ammo isn't $$$? For the $130 I paid for the rifle, it out shoots many other guns that cost much more.

GP-11, in my experience is close to $.50 a round, which is the same as surplus 308, 30-06, 6.5 x 55, and now, 8mm. 223, is nearly that much, and other former comblock calibers, aren't that much less, so, considering the accuracy, I wouldn't, but since you are, I would ask around $200.

I bought three of these last year for $89 - $99. I recently got my brother in the C&R craze and I suggested that he get a K31 as soon as possible. Being a good brother, I found him one locally for $150 in December and I decided to gift it to him. I liked it, and ended up cleaning up one of mine for him, while keeping the newest purchase.

The lowest price I see nowadays is in the $190 range. That is of course not counting local sales of guys hurting for money or the oddity of the one I saw for $695 (walnut stock!).

I recommend keeping, but if you sell you should be able to get around $200.

Wait a bit on it. The price is going up on them, from $100 a few years ago to $200 to $250 now. The word on what they are is slowly working its way out, and I expect prices to keep heading north.

Samco is the importer for most people selling a k31 today http://www.samcoglobal.com/rifles.html and those prices are about what everyone else sells for. They've been "almost gone" for years.

I think if you posted it for sale on a site like this, you'd get offers for what you paid for it or more in less than 5 minutes.

I'd personally hold on to it. I currently have 6 of them and am still kicking myself for not buying a dozen more when they were $100 or so. They'll probably command $300 or more in 5 years or less.

I concur with those saying keep it. If you could get $1000, I might say sell it, but I would have a hard time selling letting go of a very accurate and nice rifle for only 2 benjamins. They are one of the best rifles in the bang-for-your-buck category IMHO.

For $120 you can get 240 rounds of GP11. Shoot the rifle a little less, but still enjoy it.
