I have a chance to pick up a Glock 27 NIB at a very good price. While I am not a fan of the 40 S&W(much perfer the 10mm), I do like the 357 Sig round and wonder if an after market barrel is a drop in issue. Since the 357 Sig round is "almost" a necked done 40 case with the same size rim and case head, I can't see why it wouldn't work. Any opinions guys? Anybody ever do it?

Most of the aftermarket barrels are marketed as "drop in" and the conversion you suggest should work fine. Your .40 cal magazines should work as well:) FWIW: I bought a Lone Wolf 9mm conversion barrel for my G27 and it was drop in (works very well).
Regards,
Greg

357 Sig will fit in a 40 S&W mag and vice versa without any issues. The only issues would possibly be with a 9mm conversion which could possibly need an ejector or extractor change. The 40 to 357 should need nothing other than a new barrel. FWIW the G-23 barrel will also fit the G-27, but will stick out from the slide about 3/4".

You'll like the 357 SIG ! Very accurate! Some say it kicks a little more than the 40, But I shoot along side my son and I can't tell that there is any difference. If there is it may be the "sharpness", but no more real recoil. Reloading is a little more detailed as the 357 SIG is a bottleneck. I just spray my cases down with lube and run though a RCBS 357 Sig Die. If I happen to get some case that have the Glock bulge, I run them through a 40 S&W G-Rx die from Redding before the RCBS die. Accurate #9 powder is a good powder to use as it fill the case to help bullet set back. Watch your bullets and make sure that they don't have a long ogive, the bullet has to have long enough straight sides to fit the neck. Hornady 125 gr. XTP , Speer 125 JHP gold dot and a few others work good. With the Wolf barrel you can shot lead if you like.
