As they say, one man's junk is another man's treasure!
I was kicking around a scrap iron pile at a farm auction a few years ago and found two old & rusty broken saber blade pieces.
$2.00 later they were mine!

One had been blacksmithed into a 17" blade, 23" OAL long weed whacker.
The farmer or whoever had forged the rear of the blade out to attach the hickory handle & strap iron guard, and obliterated the makers mark on the tang. It had been done fairly recently and was not period for the age of the blade for sure.
I silver-soldered part of a serrated mower sickle blade to it to make a brush hook on the end.

(My field expedient LC-14-B replacement now)

The other piece of blade, I made into a 7 1/2" Sub-Hilt fighter.
The handle is from a hand-hewn Laotian Rosewood plank a friend brought home from the Vietnam war.

BTW: The farm auction was about 2 miles from the location of the Civil War Marais des Cygnes Massacre.
So I got to wonder where the old farmer, or his great great grandpa, got that broken saber blade from???
Ah, If only it could talk!
