Hello all!

My father gave me his old T/C Renegade .54 cal but not his scope or rings. So I had a set of peep rings put on (had to use peep's or the hammer would hit the scope) and a scope. On the inital bore (laser system) sighting I have found that I cannot adjust the cross hairs down enough to bore sight it. I talked to my father and he said that he had the same problem and just shimed the back of the scope with aluminum from a coke can.

Is this problem a normal problem with peep rings or is there a more "industry apporved" method of getting the scope to come down more?

the mounts and rings are T/C grillia grip universal mounts with rings
scope is BSA Huntsman 44mm

Any ideas or is what my dad did the normal thing?

It's probably not uncommon to need to shim. Shotgun side mounts sometimes need shimming too.
And scopes and rings have different sizes and adjustment spec.'s.
It's possible though that your bore sighting tool doesn't accurately reflect the true trajectory of your gun at the range that you will be sighting it in at. This might affect how much you'll need to shim.
The only other idea that I can think of involves using a temporary, no gunsmithing - clamp on mount [Quickee Mount] that Dixie Gun Works sells. The whole mount might be lower or able to be tilted enough when it's mounted to compensate for the sighting problem without shimming, but I don't know if it would work out any better in the end.
