I recently bought a nice .308 (still waiting for it to be shipped), but I am looking to put a nice scope on it and I've done my research, but maybe I've missed something.

What I am looking for is mil dot reticule, at least 80 MOA elevation (90-100 MOA preferred as I do not like the idea of having a 20 MOA base, which raises the scope up, messes up the check rest and adds unnecessary weight), target turrets and something in the order of 3-12 or 4-16 with a 30mm tube. I'm already pretty spoiled with a Leupold M4 LR/T 4.5-14X50 with M1 Turrets on another of my rifles and am looking for something similar. But I don't want to spend that much, as I'd like to stay $750 or under. I'm going to be mostly shooting 100-500 yards, but would like to make some 1000 yard shots as well in the future. Lastly, I'm trying to keep the weight down and would like the scope to be under 25 ounces.

I'm looking at the base Leupold M4 4.5-14X40 Target, which the cheapest I've found new is $740, but I was wondering if there are any better valued scopes that will do everything that can, but cheaper.

I found a Bushnell Elite Tactical 2.5-16X42 (or 44) with 120 MOA elevational adjustment and it costs $600, cheapest that I could find. I really like the magnification range. Thing that irks me is that they only have a 1 year warranty on it and if I'm going to spend that much for a scope, I'd like to think it will last a lifetime and the company that makes it should be thinking the same thing... Or am I just being overly paranoid?

I also am looking at the Burris XTR 3-12 or 4-16, like the reticules and 110 or 90 MOA elevational adjustments, but they are as much if not more than the Leupold, is it any better? The biggest advantage I can see is it has a 50mm objective and would let in a little more light.

I've looked at Vortex and Sightron, but they didn't have anything that completely met my criteria. I'm hoping there are just as good options that are cheaper that I've simply missed, anyone have any insight? Thanks!

I actually put a Leupold Mk.IV CQ/T on MY PTR91 - a po' man's PSG-1, if you will.

Because of terrain features (ridges, trees, buildings, etc.), I figured, if it ALL hit the fan, 300 yards will be a L-O-N-G range shot for me in this setting, so this seemed a good combo - rugged, efficient, and a quality setup.

I run an MFI lo-mount, to keep it as close to the barrel as possible, and the cheekpiece helps line it up even better.

Don't know if that HELPS, but this is my setup, for reference!

I would personally go for the Leopold, or at least a Redfield (made by Leopold) or a Nikon. My worst nightmares were with Bushnell scopes and take it from me, they are the fastest way to miserably waste $150 of ammo.

Hey War Wagon: That thing looks pretty darn heavy. You know what it weighs in at? My Saiga clocks ~9.0lbs with no optics and let me say that thing would be a bear to haul around in the woods. I can't imagine dragging that thing further than the roof! :D

I'm adding to the list a Vortex Viper PST 4-16X50 and may even pay more for FFP. How does that compare to the Leupold Mk 4 4.5-14X40 Target?

If you could settle on a fixed 10 power scope, check out IOR. I love them. Mine are the old 6X42's with 1 inch tubes(discontinued). I love the MP-8 reticle compared to a standard MIL-Dot.
