Tactical Thigh Holster

I'm looking for recommendations on a tactical thigh rig holster for either a 1911 / or a Glock 17. I don't want a flap type, unless someone convinces me otherwise.

Most SWAT teams and Army/Marine infantry types seem to like the Safariland 6004 - it has a contoured Kydex leg shroud that keeps the holster very stable, and its SLS retention system is VERY quick to disengage while still offering secure, positive retention.

Other good choices are made by Eagle Industries, Blackhawk Industries, Tactical Tailor, SOE, and High Speed Gear, Inc. You can find both good info and good prices on all the above holsters at www.lightfighter.com, and their discussion forum at www.lightfighter.net will also yield helpful hints and, sometimes, a good deal from their For Sale board.

I also see lots of thigh holsters offered for sale through www.assaultweb.net and www.gunbroker.com.

My vote goes to the 6004 Safariland. Having used it, I found one of the better features is the holster body itself. No worries of the holster collapsing when you draw and have to reholster, washes off rather nicely, and keeps the gun secure yet presentably when need be.

It's unanimous on the Safariland. Be really careful when selecting a holster for a 1911. Many of the generic thumb breaks are not compatible with C&L carry. If you decide against the 6004, DO NOT go for the cheapie "tactical" junk in magazine ads. Most are not secure.

I like some of the nylon rigs like the SOE because it'll fit both your 1911 and Glock, so you only need one holster.

OTOH I haven't used a Safariland, which seem to be a standard.

I have that holster that I'd sell you but I had it restitched for the P7. I really prefer Kydex and may eschew nylon completely except for bags.

I just got my Blackhawk Omega holster. I like it a lot, but I don't think it will fit my Glocks, Beterra and 1911. I bought it for the Beretta, because it is my carry gun right now.

I don't have any trouble re-holstering the weapon, the holster stays open enough to make it easy. (after the holster breaks in some, this may change.

I have all my gear set up the way I want it for the time being. I may have to post pictures soon. I just got to find a good picture server (host).

I have used both the Eagle Industries' SAS MK V and the Safariland 6004. I will say that I like the 6004 more then the Eagle Industries. I really like the options the 6004 offers in mounting additional accesories on the shroud. The kydex is comfortable and secure.

Almost every day I wear the Blackhawk Omega to work. I have found that it is extremely comfortable to use and I can assure you, Glockster, that even after it is broken in, it remains open and is easy to reholster. Just make sure that it is nice and tight on your leg as it has a tendency to let the butt of the weapon flop around if it isn’t.

Post another count for the Safariland. I prefer the wider harness for the thigh. It keeps the holster in place and makes it more comfortable than most other thigh holsters that I've tried.

Interestingly, I just got an email today from CQB Systems that they are now offering a thigh holster. I can't say first-hand if it's any good, but the quality on their other items (slings, etc) has been first rate, so you might want to check this one out.

The Safariland 6004 is the standard in thigh holsters. Great retention system and easy one handed reholstering.

I also like the Blackhawk Omega series. I have one of the newer ones that I use and it has a plastic liner that keeps the holster open.

I have the new CQB Solutions APEX thigh holsters on order and cant wait to test them out.
