Does anyone own this vest "Galati Gear Deluxe Tactical Vest Up to 54" Black"

I'm 6'1" @ 265lbs, and wondering if this vest will fit well on a big guy?
The guys at Cheaper than Dirt couldn't give me any more info than is listed in there description.
So if any of you have had this vest, or have seen it on someone, please chime in!
Thanks

What do you intend to use a tactical vest for?
To carry all my stuff when I do some target shooting with a friend of mine. 2-handguns, 6-clips.

I think a vest would make it easier than having to walk back and forth to my truck.

We set up plinking targets in the back acreage, and spend a few hours a week back there. I can't always drive right up to where our shooting position is. So a Vest would make things a lot easier for me!

& the reason for the cheaper vest, is because I don't need it for anything professional.
I'm just wondering about the fit.

You'd be better off with a good cheap range bag (BTDT got the boxes of gear to prove it), but if you have your heart set on a vest I would recommend the ones from Condor. They'll hold up better than the other lowend products.

Ok, thanks hso,

No, don't have my heart set on one, I just figured it would be the best to carry all of my stuff, rather than walking back and forth. I'll look into range bag.

I use a 5 gallon plastic bucket sometimes when I have to walk any distance from the truck to get there.

The bucket holds all my stuff, and makes a great container to throw empty brass in when I pick it up.

And I can set on it when I get tired! ;)

Ha, thats a better idea yet! Thanks!
I have some targets that we set out back (lots of room, over 100 acres). We need a spot to sit!

On another note, I just read a review about a Condor vest, and the guy said it was junk, that the stitching was coming apart the first day he got it???

My rule of thumb is that anyone who really needs a tac vest is going to have one issued to him. But I could be wrong...
Why? There are a number of advantages offered by tac vests that are not strictly related to combat situations. Many fly fishermen carry their gear in fishing vests instead of tackle boxes and many photographers carry their gear in photo vests instead of camera bags and they are not necessarily operating in a combat environment.

Depends on what and how much you are carrying, and how much you are moving around. Sure, a big range bag can probably carry more, but its one more thing to lug in your hands or over your shoulder. A vest leaves your hands free and distributes the load much more evenly and comfortably. ;)

Admittedly, you may be labeled a"mall ninja" or "arm chair commando" by some narrow minded folks, but who cares what they think? :p

You may also want to check out the 5.11 Tactical VTAC LBE Tactical Vest. Their products are all very high quality and this particular vest is available in 2X and 4X sizes.

I've considered buying a vest for the same reason. I dont need a plate carrier, just a vest with the molle loops front and back, maybe a recoil pad.

I'd buy pouches/holsters to hold various ammo/handgun types and add/remove them depending on what I took shooting that day.

I usually shoot in the woods, so I have to take my targets in with me. When I leave I have to take them out, so my hands are already full. I usually use a backpack but a vest would be a little more handy.

Thanks guys!

Both of the above posts make really good points, and they are on target for the situation I'm in.

I carry a lot of gear, I shoot at targets in the back woods, and need to carry them myself.

So yes, that was the original reason for my question.
I just thought that a tac vest would be a good option for me.

Thanks Mike & MyGreenGuns, for your input! :)

use a 5 gallon plastic bucket

Probably worth a browse through the Duluth catalog for bucket accessories. They make drape-over carriers for buckets that will organize tools, organizing the things we take to the range could be achieved, too.

I want to remember they have a shoulder strap for buckets, too--which can be very handy for when the cheap metal bail is not up to the task (as is oft the case with "acquired free" buckets).

Worth a browse at Academy or a home-improvement place for padded lids, if a person wants a seat as well. Just remember a tall-enough tripod if the spotter is going to be seated--sitting down to use a spotting scope a nice thing for those of us who have reached an age after a life spent testing connective tissue and joints <sigh>

Condor falling apart? Well, they're the best of the cheap stuff so that tells you a lot right there. OTOH, my Condor stuff I've had for a couple of years has been fine, but I never bothered with a Condor vest since I had spent the money on more expensive gear back when it was pretty much Eagle and Blackhawk.

I use 5 gallon buckets also and they cover a lot of uses. Stick them on a yard sale baby runner/stroller. Add ATV racks and you can get goofy with all the junk you can carry (including a folding camp chair).

I get grief from some of my buddies for wearing a tac vest in the back of my own back acreage, but I wear one for the same reason. I carry a lot of loaded magazines, and a couple of tools, and I like having everything organized. I can find my stuff easily, and nothing falls out of pockets.

Plus, the hydration bladder makes an excellent hip flask for after shooting. Bourbon keeps the bladder nice and clean, too.

I would never wear it to a range... I know I get a little nervous when I see some guy that obviously hasn't walked further than from his car to his front door in years, shows up at the range dressed up like he just fast-roped from a helicopter in the parking lot.

There are lots of options for vests that aren't so "tactical" looking, that still allow you to carry a good amount of stuff. Something like this 5.11 vest [] will let you organize and manage most anything you would need, and you can still stop off at a diner for coffee and pie without making the patrons think Red Dawn 2 is being filmed in the neighborhood.

Check Blue Force Gear's 10-speed chest rig. Good tension retention on everything you carry, and it's very well-made.

Just ordered a 5.11 LBE vest, still waiting on it to get here so I can't comment on the quality yet but people seem to think highly of it. I paid $78 with free shipping from amazon.com

I used to think that people who had MOLLE vests(that weren't cops or soldiers) were mall ninjas. I kinda still feel the same way, I just decided to give in to my mall ninja urge and start putting one together. I can justify it by saying that it might be useful in bug out kinda role but that sounds nutty to a lot of people so I am gonna say its for 3 gun/carbine class use.

You should check out some of Nutnfancy's youtube videos. The guy is a total mall ninja but he is an articulate mall ninja with some cool toys and long winded reviews.

Don't let anyone discourage you about getting a vest! If you want one get it!

I'd check http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/Default.aspx

They always have a good selection at reasonable prices.

I'd also look at a Condor vest. They're really good quality & affordable.

They also have Multicam & A-Tacs vests! Very cool!

I have a vest I go shoot with & I don't give a crap what anyone says about it. It's handy. Plus you never know when the zombies will attack! Be prepared! I'd rather have it & not need it, than need it & not have it! :)

If you want a really good one, have it custom made to your size, equipment, hydration, etc. Better than having a whole closet of discarded gear that dosen't really do what you want it to.

Uh no, not everyone that shoots tactically is LE or military, and thus will not have a vest issued to them. I practice tactical shooting drills with ARs and AKs at our local club, and need a vest with capacity to hold a goodly number of mags. I hope this doesn't turn into a "why does someone not in LE/military need to shoot tactical" thread.....

Got any suggestions on where to get this done? I've never seen anyone advertising custom tailored tac gear. As someone who shops in the "big n tall" store, I would be interested. ;)

A Pistol needs a Holster, a Rifle needs a way to carry mags/ammo efficiently, I would no more carry a pistol in a seperate bag off my person than mags for a rifle.

Oh man, that double baby stroller is beyond words. I wish I had that in the army when I had to do all those road marches. Forget the vest!

I use a regular little tool box (a fishing box would work as well) for range stuff. For NM shooting, we used folding chairs, the ones with the bags under 'em.

For a tactical vest you plan on using, hard to beat Tactical Tailor, but a lot of folks just put their Molle junk on the armor. I have an old Blackhawk I wore in the army, it worked pretty well but the drag handle stitching came out when a guy dragged me and my gear around in training --didn't fail though.

I still have a Harris vest laying around, that was the issue junk at the time (just before Iraq) and I don't know one single infantryman that thought it was decent. If you want it and send me the shipping, you can have it. Just the vest. You won't get much in it though, that was one of the problems.

go to just about any 3gun match and you'll see lots of tactical baby jogging strollers.

i'm a big fan of chest rigs... do NOT like vests
