tacticool gone too far?

Cute. If you bother to read their website it is listed as a promo item so there's no need to get too worked up over it, it's like having a Benchmade mug. At $60 for a 2G thumb drive with some dress up it will have a very limited market.

2 gig thumbdrives are all over the place under $15, so it has to be the tacticool flavor to bother.

We have not seen the low point of tackycool yet, although pimped Stanley Fubars are right there.

[sarcasm]Yeah, because if it doesn't look like everyone elses, it must be tacky![/sarcasm] :scrutiny:

I'm a electrician / geek.
This reminds me of Klein's BBQ set and bottle openers with the screwdriver handles. In the trade you've GOT to have 'em.
Yeah I'm gonna save to get that drive.
Stop or I'll download you !!!!
Sad I know, but true.

I can't believe how fired up people get over something that is pretty clearly meant as a novelty item. I bet you guys carry around copies of Grey's anatomy just so you can show kids at parties that there is no possible way that the clown could have a red, honking nose and that feet that big are a genetic aberration. Enjoy being serious!

I really don't see the point. Besides, what if, while flipping it, it goes flying? Are the saved contents toast?

If I just wanted a toy to flip around, I'd buy the Spyderco BaliYo (as mentioned by John).

I can see it now " Ahh man , now where did I put that flippin USB drive... I just had the flippin thing a minute ago "

;)

I just got an OCZ 4gb usb drive for free with a PSU.

And I can black out the "O" so it's a CZ 4gb usb drive...

It might have been interesting with stainless or aluminium handles... but plastic??

It is not going to flip for crap. Just my opinion...

Tom

At least, it should be light enough the weight won't interfere with it being a decent flash drive...(didn't notice the plastic handles first time).

John

"Constructed from three pieces of injection molded plastic, this little bali is tough enough for any file format you can throw at it."

I bet a .jpg of Rosie O'Donnell would crash it.

"hence the butterfly logo still in use today."

Actually, it's the other way around. The term 'butterfly knife' came from Benchmade's logo. When the importation of Balisong knives was banned, Benchmade was the only domestic company making them for awhile. So, if you wanted to buy a Balisong, it had a butterfly on the blade.

The balisong thumbdrive is a creative idea. Reminds me of the automatic Sicilian stiletto hair comb my parents got me as a souvenir from Canada when I was in 5th grade. I think it's kind of a funny joke, kind of playing with the old stereotype about techno-junkie computer geeks being dorky, sporting pocket protectors and overly plastering their hair to their scalps with gobs of mousse. It's ironic, something so cool in a bad ass way being made into something cool in a gadget-y way.
