A metal pen is pretty good because it is all metal except the plastic ink container inside. You can say you had it out because you were going to ask someone for their number.

Also smashing your own windows of your car if car jacked or house if home invaded or someone else's house or car might be an idea to create attention. The costs to repair are less than the cost of being attacked.

Dude, if I am being home invaded, I am shooting, not breaking my windows hoping to divert. I assume that the multiple gun shots will be enough for my neighbors to call the fuzz.

Honestly, if someone were trying to steal my car, I would probably just let them. I have insurance and I don't keep anything valuable in my car. I carry a gun in public, but if my situational awareness is bad enough (and it might be, I can't honestly claim that I am vigilant 100% of the time in public) that breaking my own car windows (which is harder than it sounds) would be a good idea, they can just have it.

As far as a steel pen, I agree with you that it isn't a bad idea, I disagree that you would have to come up with a cover story. It's a pen, not a Desert Eagle. To the extent of my knowledge, pens are legal in every country and setting in the world, with the possible exception of jails, and even then I don't think your going to have to make a cover story up for one. I can't even begin to imagine why a cop would ask me why I was carrying a pen, and if he did, I would likely just say "to write with" while looking at him like he was mentally deficient.

I am going to second Hso's question: Are you from the UK? You have some good ideas, but it seems like you are worried about possible trouble with items that are 100% legal and perfectly normal to carry.
