Talk me out of a "new" Winchester Model 70

Handloading is not only far more economical, it's also quite satisfying. It's a great feeling, hitting something at 300 yards with rounds you made yourself.

I don't think you really get to know your rifle until you make up your own cartridges for it.

With the .257, the reloading press should pay for itself with the first container of powder you use.

I used to handoad and really enjoyed it.We moved and had to sell it.I'm not sure time I buy everything if it will, not just be cheaper to buy ammo_Only shoot 20 to 30 rounds a year.

.Only shoot 20 to 30 rounds a year.

We will pray for you!

I do know what you mean, after I moved(chasing work) I was fortunate enough to become involved with several levels of competition from several different disciplines.

Now, that all has changed, and for the worse.... but, it's only a minor setback.

If 20 or 30 rnds. is all you shoot, it is more beneficial to test several of the factory loads and find the one your rifle likes best.

And really.... for hunting, today's factory fodder is MORE than sufficient!

But....reloading is the very best way, as ArmedBear said, to become intimate with your rifle!

thank you Uncle Mike I loved reloading I had a rock chucker master kit.I had gotten a case cleaner a chronograph I had a nice bench made had about 12 diff types powder
It was almost as much fun as shooting.I'm just thinking though it would prob cost me 500$ to get set back up,So far she shoots the weatherby 110 grain accubond around 5/8 ths of a inch.the 100 grain spire points around 3/4s I'm kinda having 2 nd thoughts on trading it for a new model 70 I have heard they are hard on barrels.but I figure if 1500 rounds burn it out that like to me 20 yrs shooting Plus I admit the 700 cdl-sf is a very nice rifle

Your barrel is fine...if your getting those groups out of it, I would be hard pressed to rid myself of that rifle.

Then again, if it's a 'sell one to fund the other' type thing...well....you have to do what you have to do!

I am NOT brand loyal, I have more Remington stuff than any other, BUT.... it is all older Remington.

We have seen sales of the CDL become almost non-existent at both shops, and have sent quite a few Remington rifles and shotguns(870 mainly) back for warranty work.

The CDL is a wonderful looking rifle and it sports a 24" barrel, which I prefer; but I have to say that the cost of this unit is way more than it is worth, and the accuracy is NOT going to be there, unless your lucky.

About the only thing the CDL has going for it is its nice stock...and the bluing job Remington is turning out on this model is good also.

I hear more and more from the buying customers around here that the Winchester 70's we have sold them are great. The two I have shot were excellent...accuracy was not phenomenal, but was around 1"@100y...which, to me...IS phenomenal! lol

I never was a Winchester man...but we all can change with a little help! lol

Uncle Mike re you a firearm dealer? If so may I ask the cost diff between the Win model super grade in a 30-06 and a Rem 700 CDL stainless in a 30-o6
