I wanted a pure deer hunting rifle so I picked up a new Winchester Featherweight model 70 in 7mm-08 and I just can't say enough! My go to rifle had been my Remington 700 in .270, but I think she's going to be seeing more safe time. The very low recoil, accuracy and killing power of the 7mm-08 always had me intrigued so I went and splurged. It is almost impossible not shoot that round well. It is very accurate and an absolute delight to shoot. That combined with the lightweight and balance of the new featherweights have made me one proud owner that cannot wait for deer season! Anyone else out there love the 7mm-08?

I love the 7-08, at 56 years of age and have no need for magnums, wsms etc. the 7-08 and 6.5 Swedish are all I shoot anymore, here in Texas, the biggest pigs go down quick to both of them with little recoil. I see no need for a larger caliber unless you absolutley got to follow the crowd. I just aint much of a follower.

I like my XS-7 in 7-08 a whole lot. What I don't like is scopes only, so I dropped it off at the gunsmiths to have iron sights added to it. That will be a very nice combination for Wisconsin woods.

It's among Remington's best creations! I like the 120 grain HPs in a handload myself. Pictures...where are the pictures?! How can you expect for us to live vicariously through your purchase without pictures?!

Good point Geno. Pics to follow tomorrow!

Poor ol' beloved .270 may have fired her last shots for awhile.

The 7mm-08 is an excellent cartridge. It has a flatter trajectory than the 308 and the 30-06 because of the 7mm bullet, which gives it a better coefficient. You can use this practically anywhere from varmint to elk without getting your teeth rattled like the other large calibers. Congratulations on your purchase and happy hunting. It does suck that you do not post pictures. LOL.

Glad that you like it. With all these 7mm-08 threads it makes me want one. I think the Featherweight or a Model Seven in that caliber would make a perfect deer rifle for the areas that I hunt.

7MM-08 is a fantastic round, especially if you reload. Its very flexible. I also like the 6.5x55, and .260 Remington which has similar ballistics to the Swede in a shorter cartridge. I prefer the 6.5 - 7MM rounds than the .30 Cal.

I lost my 7mm-08.... when my oldest daughter took up deer slaying, she also took my smallest and lightest 7mm-08 rifle, a Remington Model 7 with a Burris 3-12X50 setting on top.

They, together have brought the end to many a deer, the rifle shoots Hornady Light Magnum ammo into 1/2"@100y cold bore, can't complain there, and I have been told that the rifle is not mine any more....oh well, I'll just have to replace it!

For where I live right now (subject to change)
and what I might want to shoot,
I need only a .30-30 in a rifle.

(Having said that, I'll add that it's been a long time
since I've shot anything, including my .30-30.
Ah, life just keeps getting in the way.)

If I needed something that shoots
faster, flatter and farther,
it'd be a 7mm 08.

I had two different Remingtons in 7mm.08. Two vastly different rifles. The first was a Remington Model 7 bought used around 1990. Extremely accurate and a joy to shoot. The second was a Remington Model 700BDL-DM. What a dog!!!! Beautiful rifle but bolt would not close on a loaded round. After I finally got it clean enough to chamber a live round it would not group inside 4" at 100 yards and less with factory ammo. Traded it for a S&W 686 no-dash and never looked back.

Count me in, I'm a fan of the 7mm-08! Its a great deer cartridge with mild-moderate recoil and excellent killing power. I have a Rem M700 CDL and a Rem M7 youth rifle chambered in 7mm-08. We've killed multiple deer with both and have had nothing but excellent results. The M7 youth rifle is sighted in using the Rem managed recoil 140gr, which works great bye the way.
