A T-55 tank crushes rifles collected through Operation Harvest at the Serb-run Republika Srpska military camp in Bijeljina, Bosnia and Herzegovina, on Tuesday. The local police and military joined the Stabilization Force peacekeepers this time in the collection of weapons remaining from the war.

Is it me, or does that stuff look like buried WWII stuff? Rusty MP38s in the foreground with rusty MG42 further back. Spectacular, but not exactly meaningful.

Anyone here have the sudden urge to introduce that tank to a strategically placed shaped charge?:cuss:

If any of those were my rifles, this act would only strengthen my hatred and determination against whatever enemy was squashing my babies.

BIJELJINA, Bosnia and Herzegovina — For years, Stabilization Forces have been collecting weapons and ammunitions from Bosnia.

Yet each voluntary weapons turn-in program still manages to yield a healthy harvest.

Just how voluntary is it when the police and military are at your door.

• 400 small arms — 20mm
• 1173 hand grenades
• 164 rifle grenades
• 5 anti-tank mines
• 18 anti-personnel mines
• 70,187 ammo — 20mm
• 15.7kg of explosives
This is all they got from three communities. They could have confiscated this from three members of this forum. And that, like I suspect in Bosnia ,would be what they were willing to give up to appease the searchers

I thought this was a tactical question. :)

Sgt. Rock always shoots the tank commander, then drops a grenade down the open hatch.

I saw a variation of this in the movie BATTLE OF THE BULGE, so it must be true. :D

A side note- there are still plenty of countries that use updated models of the MG42... they went through MG1,2,and 3 chambered for 7.62 Nato and such. A few months ago, the last time the Indians and Pakistanis were making noises and testing nukes, news showed several clips of soldiers huddled in bunkers along what I guess is the Kashmir border, hunkered down behind their own MG 42/MG 3s.
I was surprised those things were still around and did a little research. Sure enough, Germany, Austria, Chile, Denmark, Greece, Iran, Italy, Norway, Pakistan, Portugal, Spain, Sudan, and Turkey have had or still use them. I guess if our guys are still lugging around the Ma Deuce then it shouldn't come as a surprise.
There go my dreams of lining up a dozen stuffed Barney toys and blasting them to random fluff with an MG42. :(

OUTRAGE ...

At my range next month we will have our revenge. We're all getting together and shoot up a T-55!!!

First the guns...
Then the books...
Then the Journalists...
Then the desenting politicians...
Then the Teachers...
Then the Poets...
Then the Musicians...
Then anyone who stands up!

Admittedly I don't know a whole lot about what's going on in the Balkans these days, but;
aren't the Serbs at least nominally "Christians", and
aren't their enemies mainly "Muslims", those same 'religion of peace' folks who gave us 9-11?
So why are we cheering those Jihadi rifles and booing the tank?
Just asking.

utahminirevolver,

So, slaughter and oppression are okay if they're being performed by collectivist barbarians who nominally share your faith (which they don't; they're Orthodox Slavs who spend their time fighting Catholic Croats when not shooting Muslim Albanians) as long as they're doing the slaughtering and oppressing to folks who don't share your religion?

*Sigh*

Sometimes you gotta wonder why we bothered going through the Enlightenment when most folks seem to prefer the cheery pleasures of the Thirty Years War.

So why are we cheering those Jihadi rifles

Uuum - if you are conflating Balkan Muslims with the 'Jihadi' Arab extremists, you might want to go hit the history books.

Folks, I appreciate your replies.
And I agree that Communism is evil 'collectivist barbarian'ism (that's partly why I served in the US Army back in the sixties).
Nazism was equally evil with Communism. When it was the most emminent threat, we made an alliance of convenience with the Communist Soviet Union to defeat Hitler's Huns.
Then when the Soviets were the most emminent threat, we held our noses and temporarily allied with Osama bin Laden's Afghan Mujahedeen to stop the Empire of Evil.
Since 9-11 fanatical Islmists have been our greatest threat.
So may I suggest that if we don't actively support all enemies of Islam (think Russians versus Chechens, Israelis versus Palestinians, Hindus versus Muslim Kashmiris-Pakistanis, Serbs-Croats-Macedonians versus Albanians, assorted third-world Christians versus oppressing Muslims in Indonesia, Sudan, Nigeria, the southern Philippines, etc), then at least we ought to not actively oppose them.
Let me close with a quote from an American Muslim, CAIR Chairman Omar Ahmad,
"Islam isn't in America to be equal to any other faith, but to become dominant. The Quran should be the highest authority in America, and Islam the only accepted religion on earth".

As a soldier in the Israel Defence Force, I take offence in that last statement. We're not fighting the Palestinians and not the Arabs. We're fighting the terrorists. It might enlighten you to know that quite a significant number of Muslims serve in the IDF as volunteers (Palestinians included).

I also do not take lightly to people conflating the anti-terror operation Defensive Wall and the mass-murder committed by Slobodan Milosevic.
