A friend bought 20-rnd Tapco magazines for his Yugo SKS. They fit fine, but when the rounds are pushed forward, they smack up against the steel near the lip of the big hole (not too familiar with terminology).

Has anyone modified either the mags or the rifle to make this work? Advice is profoundly appreciated.

I use the Tapco mags, but with the Tapco stock, I never tried to use them with the regular stock, I installed the full compliance kit on my rifle first. http://www.midwayusa.com/viewProduct/?productNumber=973077

I picked that setup, because I heard from more than one source that this is the ONLY hi-cap conversion for an SKS that actually works.

Understand, IT IS ILLEGAL to change out ONLY the magazine on an SKS. it was imported under special rules which state if you modify it, you must change at least TEN parts to make it a 'non import'. The magazine counts as three. The kit in the link above was assembled specifically to comply with this law.

If the magazine gets squeezed by the magwell, then it'll bind up and not feed properly. You need to remove a couple millimeters of wood off each side of the magwell until the magazine inserts without being distorted. A file or dremel tool works just fine.
