I just got a call from a guy saying his Tarus 100 .40 cal is having problems. He said he could rack one in and fire without any issues. But when fired the slide doesn't move. He can pull the slide back and it will reject the shell and pick up the next round fine.
My first thought was that the timing was off on the gun, not letting it unlock in time to release the slide.
Or a heavy spring, but he said the gun had shot fine in the past and he had not changed the spring.
What are your thoughts on this problem. And what would it take to fix. I'm not much of a pistol smith and know even less about a Tarus.

Thanks guys

Ask if he has changed ammo.

Too light reloads would be about the only thing that could cause this if he can cycle it manually after firing with no problems.

Guns don't just go out of time and start not unlocking setting on the shelf.

A broken barrel locking cam could cause it not to unock when fired.
But you couldn't hand cycle it then either.

Thanks RC I'll give him a call and see what he is shooting.

i had the same problem with my beretta 96, and found out it was some target rounds i was using. there were the blazzers.

I talked to my friend and he said he shoots the federal hollow points and win. rounds. I would think that those rounds should have plenty of power to cycle the gun. Again I haven't had the gun in my hands. Any other ideas as to what may be the problem.

I'm still thinking a reduced power spring may be the way to go.

Ok, just as I wrote that last post the guy walked through the door with the gun. I walked outside and shot the gun. The slide not moving isn't the problem at all. the gun cycles fine but the trigger doesn't reset. Pull the trigger, gun fires, slide comes back and ejects the shell, feeds next round as it closes, hammer stays cocked but the trigger stays in fired position. You can use the decocker and the trigger will reset and fire in either double or single action. Whats keeping the trigger from resetting?

Yeah, it was the trigger bar. It was catching on the safety. Thanks RC.
