I've always been kind of stupid about electricity, so educate me here.

I saw an ad for a small taser, the Taser C2 for the general public. I was trying to figure out if it has less power (and / or less effectiveness) than the regular ones.

According to the taser website, the C2 is 17 pulses per second, delivers 0.0021 amperes and 1.2 watts.

The M18 is 15 pulses per second and 8 watts.

The X26 is 19 pulses per second and 1.33 watts delivered.

Which number is the important one, amperes, watts or volts? I have in my head that it's watts, but I'm not sure. I couldn't find an ampere number for the m18. They give different numbers for total v. delivered for volts, watts, and amperes, too, so in short I find it all pretty confusing.

So is this C2 a "baby" taser with lower effectiveness?

alright, im going to give it a shot... its been awhile but here goes... i know for a fact that the amps are what will kill you. .2 amps could stop a heart beat. i also know that the voltage is what you feel. police tazers im familiar with have 50k volts with a very small amount of amps. (amps are the speed at which the voltage will "travel") soo, from your question, volts are the most important in stopping someone and that is what i would look for in shopping for a personal tazer.

As I understand it, the C2 has shorter effective range (I believe about 15') and a lower output. The nice thing about the c2 tho is the "ride" is a full 30 seconds vs. 3 trigger pulls from the X26 to get the 30 sec "ride"

The M18 is 15 pulses per second and 8 watts.-Seems like wishful thinking from what I've seen from these things, but it beats a stun gun. Doesn't even come close to the X26. Don't know about the new C2 except the price is lower.

The C2 is perfectly fine. One of our trainers volunteered to take the 30 second ride in order to compare it to the X26. He said that it felt just as bad and just as incapacitating as the X26...the only difference was that it seemed to last about a million years as opposed to only a decade for the X26.

Yes, he does have something wrong in his head. I "volunteered" for one and only one five-second Taser ride, and I swear, they may get me to take another one, but they're going to have to aim well enough to hit a moving target, and I swear to God that when I come out of it I will see just how long it takes to get a M&P to slidelock. ;)

Dude, it sucks.

It's the amperage

Most people are shocked (apologize for the pun) by the high voltage of a taser but really it's the amperes that could potentially kill you. at 200 milliamps the human heart stops dead, anything more than 100 will make you 'do the chicken' and less than that you have a chance at life. don't quote me but im pretty sure that most tasers reach 8 milliamps at their peak. so if you want to do damage you'll have to build you own cattle prod.
