I've never owned a gun with porting before, and from what I understand its not recommended for a self defense gun.

But what about a 4" 44 mag? Is it really going to matter that much with a non SD gun, and is there a lot of extra flame with it?

I've had an itch for a 44 mag for a while, and the cheapest S&W usually cost about $500-600, which is almost twice as much as a Taurus. I also have never owner a Taurus either, but it seems the general consensus is that they make a good revolver for the money.

Any and all comments appreciated.

I have the Taurus Tracker, medium frame in 44mag with porting, and it outshoots my Redhawk. Recoil is very manageable, and the price was definitely right. Its a great, quality revolver, well worth the money in my opinion. I'll have to shoot it in low light to see if there's considerable flash, but I've owned a Blackhawk, and it produced a monster flash in low light, so I'm guessing that's probably part of being the 44mag caliber.
