I notice that when it comes to medium-sized (around 4") .44 magnum revolvers, Taurus has a pretty good selection. This comes as a surprise to someone who buys mostly Ruger, whose double action selection is...well...limited. ("You can have anything you want as long as it's a GP-100 in .357", I remember somone on THR saying)

From what I can tell, I can choose from:

Model 44
Tracker in .44 magnum
Raging Bull in .44 magnum
Total Titanium in .44 magnum

I can kinda see what makes the Total Titanium special, but what's the difference between, say, the Model 44 and the Tracker, or the Tracker or the Raging Bull?

Frame size, weight, barrel configuration, and number of chambers. Go to the Taurus website and compare the various models.

I've been looking into this myself. When it comes to wheelguns I've thus far been a purely smith .357 guy ( 66s and 686 ) , but I just can't afford to add a 629 to the lineup now so I've been interested in the taurus offerings in .44 as well. Now I'm not sure on this , so don't quote me on it, but I think that the tracker models are based on their .357 frame, as opposed to the Model 44 which is more comparable to an N frame. Thus the tracker having only 5 rounds.

The M44 is like an N frame S&W with a full shroud barrel and porting. Heavy 6 shot revolver. The Tracker is on their medium frame and has a five shot cylinder. Lighter and smaller. The Raging Bull is a very large frame gun with a 6 shot cylinder. The grip frame is reduced and the grips have cushion which makes the 44 Mag a pussycat to shoot. Downside may be that the Raging Bull have a latch at the yoke which means you really need both hands to get the cylinder open. No fast reloads. No experience with the ultra light:what: 44 mag models.

Even if that's so , there is a big price difference between a taurus offering and a redhawk. I'm currently very seriously considering the taurus Model 44 4". I'm a little bit biased against what Ive seen from taurus revolvers .. but I might be willing to give it a chance.
