Do you like it, would you recommend it to me? Any issues? Im between this and the lcr, but prefer the taurus because it has an exposed hammer and looks better.

Thanks

I don't own one, but I am interested in it. What little research I could find on the internet seems favorable

I am currently in process of selling mine.

I have shot the LCR at the range. I was not mine, but the gentleman let me shoot a few rounds thru it. Nice little pistol. Pretty accurate for what it was. No malfunctions to report.

The Poly Protector I "won" at an NRA auction. I got it for a reasonable price compared to street and was hoping to be happy with it. Took it to the range for some quick testing with both factory .38 and some .357 handloads. Nothing too hot. After about 30 or so rounds the timing on the gun got so bad that I found shards of the bullet's jacket on the bench. It had been stripped off the bullet and fallen between the forcing cone and the cylinder. She went straight back to Taurus. They fixed the problem pretty quickly and sent her back. I have not shot it since. It was reasonably accurate. The fiber optic front sight is a bonus, and the gun is pretty light. If I could be convinced that the gun was as close to 100% reliable as possible, it would do duty in the nightstand (no CC where I live). As it stands, I've sold it.

Good luck. Taurus' customer service was quick and helpful. I just don't like having to use it.

I recommend you purchase an ALL METAL Taurus® Mdl 605. I have two Taurus Mdl 605SS2's, and one Mdl 605SS3. They are fine guns in ALL RESPECTS. They are accurate and dependable! I wouldn't own one, let alone three; if they were not excellent guns.

Thanks, I guess Im a little gun shy on this one, leaning more towards the LCR, but I really prefer the looks, hammer, price of the taurus.

My stainless 605 had timing problems and weak primer strikes after only a few boxes of ammunition. Both of these problems seem to crop up from time to time in Taurus revolvers. Otherwise, their rep for revolvers isn't terrible.

I've fired an LCR in .22, which is supposed to have a worse trigger than the .38 and .357, and it had the best DA trigger I've tried on anything besides an older Colt. (Not that I'm a huge revolver guy, but I've owned/fired examples from all the major manufacturers at some point or another.)

I like mine

I have owned my 605 Poly since last July. Guessing probably somewhere between 600 and 800 rounds through it. Mix of .38, .38+P, and .357.The 3 finger grip is much nicer for the latter. I had one problem early on. It would not cock for single action. I'm not a gunsmith but I took the grip off to see what I could see and it appeared that a piece of rubber from the grip was blocking it. Cleaned it out and have never had another problem.

Working at distances of 12-15 feet in single action it's very accurate in my experience. Given that this is the range I bought it for, I don't have any complaints. Nothing to compare the trigger pull to but I'm having to work on the double action pull. Dry fire and GripMaster are helping.

Holsters are a bit tricky as the size is not exactly that of the steel 605. I use a Galco Ultra Conceal in a J frame size and it works fine, though a S&W would probably sit further down in it. Picked up a paddle holster from Wild Bill's Holsters in size for the Ruger SP101 and fits it perfectly. Also tried some holsters for K and L frame S&Ws and they fit nicely.

Biggest issue I've had is the Taurus bad mouthers, but as long as it goes bang when it needs to and is reasonably accurate, I'm not sure the BG is really going to care what shot him. If I'd had an unlimited amount to spend and a wife that said "go for it" I'd have probably bought a S&W M&P 340, but then I'd have had to cough up another $500.

So, for what I paid and how it's performed, I'm perfectly pleased with mine. Down the road, maybe a Ruger AND a S&W!.

well, as bad as I wanted the taurus, Im going after work to get an lcr 357, weighing the problems from both, Im just not confident enough in the protector, wish they would spend a couple extra minutes on their stuff to make a better product.

Thanks

Just remember that when you buy a Ruger® firearm you GET NO WARRANTY! Look at the last couple of pages or so of the Ruger Firearms Manual & it will tell you.

Taurus® OTOH, Warrants the firearm; not the purchaser! You can be the 15th owner; or the 50th owner of a Taurus® firearm (manufactured 1977>) and you get a Lifetime Warranty!

yeah I know, but from what Ive read people that have had ruger problems, had no problems with ruger either. Id rather have a good gun with no warranty, than something I have to send back. Right? Like I said, I REALLY want the taurus, but read too much bad.

While Ruger may not offer written a warranty document they DO stand behind their products just as well as any of their competition. A Polymer .357 is one of those engineering concepts where "we can do this but why would you want one?" You could just stick your hand into a big rat trap 5 or 6 times and get pretty much the same effect. I would take a SP 101 any day over that.

Just bought it a few days ago. Love it. Looks, feels great. I didn't notice much of kick at all. I generally hate Taurus, but this gun just fit me well. Hold both in your hand before making a decision. Actuate the SA a few times as well. If I had a choice of Ruger LCR or nothing, I'd save my money. That being said, the gun market is nuts right now. Buy whichever, and if you don't like it, you can probably private sale it for 90% of what you paid for it.

Partially the price. Either way, these are going to be pocket pistols of some sort I assume. I feel like in a high stress situation of needing a gun, I would want the option of DA/SA. That has always kind of been the selling point of a revolver in that size. If you're dead set on a pocket gun with some wallop, why not get an XDs. It will print less and seems reliable (haven't shot one myself).

EDIT: I should also add in that I sold a little keltec .32 and fully intended to upgrade to the Ruger LCP. Sold out EVERYWHERE in my area. Couple revolvers caught my eye. Ruger LCR felt great, but it was just 'weird' not having a hammer on a revolver. I looked at the S&W Bodyguard in .380 and then the Taurus Poly. They were the same price and I basically said "Screw it, I want a .38 and .357 with DA/SA."

(I also sold that Keltec for $40 more than I paid for it. Asking more than I expected as a barter buffer. Seriously, if your area is like mine, get whatever and be able to sell it quickly)

dont want casings flying around, thats why the wheel gun, and I agree, Id rather have the option of the hammer. But it is what it is, nobody has the taurus in stock here anyway, there is a 605 steel frame in stock though.

I suppose worse case scenerio, if I dont like it, I can easily sell it for more than Ill be paying for it new, seen a few on the forums go for at least $50 more than Ill be paying in the store...

Thanks

Good luck with whatever you pick. Update the post after you get some range time, I'm curious to know how the steel goes for you!

I have had the Taurus for about 2 weeks.

Have had the LCR .357 version for about 9 months.

So far, I like the Taurus better. But both fit their mission well. More accurate than I am, and both easy to carry.

Like the HiViz on the Taurus as std, and you get 2 different grips with the Taurus.

I am pleased with both, but the T price point is also a big plus

Also, I have about 250 rounds through the T, so I feel as if I can make an honest assessment.
